Rogaine race (NZ Champs) 17:47:22 [4]
shoes: Inov8 370

Unfortunately Jeff developed an issue with his hips an hour into this rogaine. It got progressively worse, and although he soldiered on he was in considerable pain and struggled, particularly on the uphills, and I was having to wait for him longer and longer.

At about 3am he started vomiting from the pain so we decided to pull the pin.

Navigationally not bad aside from a couple of issues - at 81 we came into the stream too low and turned the wrong way thinking we were above the control - lost about 30 min. Couldnt find the track to 51. Got stuffed up in the stream to 91 - found the control ok but took a long time. lots of fallen trees.

Route probably not too bad and reasonable points considering how slow we were going. Still enjoyable.

Orienteering race (OMax) 35:36 [4]

Played golf earlier in the day, and forgot my O gear, so ran in an old pair of NB casual shoes and shorts and polo shirt. A blister on my left heel from my golf shoes didn't help.
Pretty crap orienteering on a good course, several mistakes - a couple of them quite time consuming, and generally not able to get moving very fast. Felt like rubbish!

Run race (Waterfront 5k) 28:30 [4] 5.0 km (5:42 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Road 255

Nearly didn't do this tonight. The ankle that I rolled on Sunday had swollen up a bit, but wasn't causing any discomfort, and my left calf was a little bit tight.

So I decided to do it, but start out slow and just see how I went. Normally when I do this run I am going for a time and I start out as fast as i can and then survive till the end, so I was interested to see what a more measured start would do.

So I started a bit slower than I normally do and tried to get into a decent rhythm, which I was able to do. Concentrated on trying to get forward a bit in my stride and land on the front and middle of my foot rather than the heel.

Was able to do that, turned in 13.56, managed a reasonable pace on the way back and finished ok. A new PB by 2 seconds
