Yesterday's downhill effort had left my legs in a state for this. Bimbled through to 5 with Eddie, then missed #6 (went straight, saw Eddie but then fucked it, not thinking straight) by a couple of minutes. Caught him back up at 8 and was going well through 9 and 10, but missed the low-hung 11 it was autobus compacto with Eddie and Millartime. Wurzelled them at #13 by hanging back and nailing the control whilst they went straight on.
OK through to #23, just very slow (and given a rough-terrain masterclass by Spookster and Mike Johnson). Bounced around the next few but was paggered and succumbed to my fannyness , jacking it in leaving #29 - knowing what I was doing on Monday. Eddie and Jack came through soon after, no way I was up for a race!
Just not focussed enough today on such a bitty map, was never anywhere near being in control, everything very spur of the moment!

1st fell race of the year. New fell racers (£30 off courtesy of FTOP vouchers) - lets go!
Felt OK in genral although still a bit jaded from Thursday night.
Set a steady pace on the ascent to Black Combe, feeling good but without much speed - lots of people eased past me and away - Spunkywhistle, Wood, King Kong Corny, Mike Johnson, Joe Mann and Ben Jogdelnoor included. Got into my stride on the run round to White Combe and reeled a few in, but the big pack were just too far out of reach. Hit the bottom of the 2nd BC ascent well but Duncan, Jack etc. pulled away up here. Missed the summit a bit in the clag, but the group had worked out what was going on by the time I got there, so I lost minimal time. Set my bearing, punched the box and headed off down the hill. Hit the path a bit earlier than anticipated, and didn't feel in complete top gear, but took 33 seconds off the downhill record (8:34 now SI boxes have all been sorted out)
cracking run from Bigwhistle and Jack a couple of places up from me.
Lots of people have been very complimentary about my downhill run, but the cold hard fact is that I'm not good enough up hill! Nearly there, but some work to do post Edale. Of course, being fresher will help. However, 116% of Ricky Lightfoot is great, as he's on fire at the moment.

So last year I made a big breakthrough in Lakes terrain. However, that was based on being able to see everything around me! This time I was wandering off-line all the time and losing big time. However, it could have been much worse, as I was much better at catching mistakes/relocating than last year.I did, however, manage to pick up the wrong map. Thankfully taking the butterflies in the wrong order didn't DQ me, but I got very confused at the first one after the common control!
followed by a very swift turnaround before hitting the bright lights and pint of Ulverston.

Work to Go Outdoors to get a map.
Then to the Uni's gym for the toilet, then back to the whitewater.
8x laps of the whitewater (~620m with an uphill and downhill ramp) with _1min jog recovery.
Cruised them all at 1:59-2:02 (1st in 1:55, last one 2:06 as a dog got in the way and nearly earned itself a kick on the nose). Next time all <2:00.
Then jog home where dinner was ready (once I'd warmed my hands up - nice when I left work but got very cold as it got dark)
Feeling a bit worn out today after the weekend. This time last year was when I got injured, so I'm being very cautious with anything slightly niggly. I've had a few slight pains in my knees over the past few weeks that normally disappear very quickly, but pushing them on tired legs and body is just asking for trouble.
