Orienteering race 58:38 [5] 4.5 mi (13:02 / mi)
shoes: Asics trail shoes
A tough course trying to take advantage of the newly added marginal areas of Five Rivers. Some of these are marginal in all senses of the word.
I ran green to keep things a bit shorter in case my calf was balky - but it was fine. Weird, since 4 days ago I couldn't even complete an 800 m run.
No major errors. On a few controls, had to poke around the rootstocks a bit until I found the right one. The main problem was feeling winded, particularly after 40 min - I haven't run for more than 40 min in over 2 months, so that was probably it.
The long run across the chest-high grass field was diabolical - like hot snowshoeing. I think Bob Lange was the only one who had been through here before me, and I lost his trail pretty quickly. Maybe the latecomers had an easier time?
