UC Berkeley. 2.6 km, 45m climb, 19c Sprint set by George. Did quite well despite dead legs. Lost about 1:05 all together, with a :20 route choice being the worst mistake.
Despite two days of rest and a week of little activity, could tell warming up that my legs just didn't have it. Still worn out from the 4 races in 44 hours 3 weeks ago? Just dunno.
#1. Probably would have been a few secs faster to go around the W side of the building, but it would have taken too long to decide that. Couldn't read the detail around the SR corner well enough, so took the path I came to that hugged the corner - but that was a dead end and had to back out. A little confused once around the corner, but spotted the bag so that only cost me a sec or two. Lost :15 all together. Also, a bit disconcerted at the beginning because my Garmin couldn't pick up a signal.
#2 - #12. Very efficient, never stopped, hardly slowed down (if at all), chose good routes. A couple of hills and stair cases made me struggle, though.
#13. Slowed a little in the middle because things didn't quite seem right (I see now that one "sidewalk" was actually correctly mapped as an ISSOM trail - and I was on that trail but had been expecting a sidewalk). Had to really focus at the end to not get trapped by the multilevel situation, but nailed it.
#14. The only leg on the course I hadn't planned in advanced, so lost several seconds leaving #13. Started to run across the bridge, realized that was a bad route, so went back. Overran the control by about 10m. Would've thought I lost :20 on the leg, but splits show it was more like :30.
#15. Got there just fine, but there was no punch on top of the sand. Sifted through the vines below, found the punch and placed back on top. Probably cost me :05.
#16. Fine.
#17. After crossing the bridge, uncertain of where I was, went about 20m too far before turning left. In the control circle, hadn't noticed that the clue was TOP of the wall, so I went to the bottom and had to spend a few secs getting back around to the top. Lost :15 all together.
#18 - F: Fine
Good, reasonably challenging course. Just wish I felt better running. I remembered several times to push the pace, but when I tried, it seemed like I just couldn't get my legs out in front of me fast enough.
