Orienteering 34:22 [3] ** 5.3 km (6:29 / km) +130m 5:47 / km

Didn't think I'd get round much of this, and it quickly became apparent on the track running to 1 my ankle wasn't too happy, but it was a bit better in the much cleaner forest aside from on the slopes again, so treated it as training and finished up after the first loop.

Despite being a really easy loop, made horrible a mess of 3, poor distance judgement and following an unmarked trail rather than focussing on the contours and ditches, meant I ended up at 10 instead. Rest straightforward.

Orienteering race 1:22:00 [4] **** 6.5 km (12:37 / km) +200m 10:56 / km

SL1 - Long Swamp East - Middle, 4.8km 240m.

This wasn't great, in any respects. Went ok round the first loop, poor route to #1 not really knowing the terrain and a couple of misses in the circle aside. A stupid miss at 11, was struggling with ankle on slopes and motivation running through the crap tho, along with the heat, meant that from 13 onwards was pretty much reduced to a walk until the final section at the finish.

Which meant when making a massive error on 14, at walking pace, it took a long time to recover. Got sucked down the hill too early and far, then struggled (failed) to relocate off the huge lumps of rock, binning the best part of 15 minutes. Haven't done that for a long time.

Was slow and reasonably clean through the remainder, navigating through the big lumps of rock and holding a compass bearing on the slopes is much easier when walking and not getting distracted by the physical struggle.

Roughness aside, the terrain was quite wonderful, having never really done any orienteering amongst huge rock pagodas, was quite spectacular, and almost made up for how shit my actual orienteering was.
