Tyler Arboretum - Foxcatcher II A-Event Green X course. A better effort than yesterday. Ran with more conviction, was basically clean, and made good route decisions. I gave back some time on the hills though - need to work on that. I loved the course, the map and the terrain. It was almost like a Mud Run at times with all the stream crossings. There were still a couple inches of snow in the woods but it provided less resistance than yesterday.

I deliberately decided not to volunteer for anything this A-event and just focus on competing. It was fun to sit back and watch the DVOA machine in action. A great job on all fronts, particularly considering the snowstorm. Special props to Roger and Andrea Hartley who have now directed two stellar A-events in succession. I think they get to sit the next one out.

Tyler Arboretum - Mother of all Trail O's Part 2. Happily, there was less skullduggery today and I had a much better outing. Glancing at the answer sheet, I think I got 2 wrong and they were both late in the course when I was probably going brain dead. Map and venue were again excellent. Thanks to Karl and crew for two high quality Trail O events. One of these days, I will get the hang of this.

Ridley Creek SP - Foxcatcher II A-Event Green X course. An early start in 5-6" of fresh snow. The snowcover was beautiful but made things very physical. It was hard maintaining momentum. My run was okay but I hesitated on a few controls and took a sub-optimal route to #14 (around to the left - I let the green scare me unnecessarily). It was a fun course with surprisingly few thorns. A few controls were too easy for advanced (#13 especially) and I was hoping for a little more complex route choice. But still, a very fun day in the woods.

Orienteering 50:00 [1]

Ridley Creek SP - Mother of all Trail-O's Part I. I was enjoying the course up until #11 when the inevitable trail-O mind games began. I thought 11-12 were kind of ludicrous. The rest of the course was very well done. I had a brain fart on #14 - was looking at the circle for #15 and didn't realize it until after I punched. This was a good trail-o venue.

Road Run 29:36 [5] 4.1 mi (7:13 / mi)
shoes: Asics GT-2000

Lunchtime run. Ran hard to try and catch Bob & Clay who started before me. I reeled them in about 2/3 of the way through. Sunny but crisp.

Volleyball 1:30:00 [1]

A boatload of peole tonight so had to sit out some games. Seems like it's either feast or famine. Served very well. Hit not so well.

Road Run 32:40 [3] 4.1 mi (7:58 / mi)
shoes: Asics GT-2000

Lunchtime run. Decided to go slow since I had no Clay to pace me and there was a ferocious wind blowing.
