bib number: 1971
age: 46

location: Silver Spring, MD
division place: 81 out of 170
gender place: 511 out of 1059
time: 6:02:31
pace: 0:
swim: 52:03
t1: 4:33
bike: 3:02:58
t2: 4:54
run1: 53:57
run: 1:58:03

I was pleased although my time was slower than I had hoped for. Although I did the swim at a rather lackadasical pace (probably drifted off the course a couple times too) I did the bike in exactly the time I wanted. The first half of the run was about an 8:30 pace, which was right on schedule, but I really hit the wall at about mile 8 - and I really lost steam. It was very hot and humid out there and I think I didn't eat enought beforehand - judging from how much I ate within an hour after it was done (4 banannas, 2 oranges, a plate of pasta, 3 sodas, 3 bottles of water, a ham sandwich, and within another hour, a coldcut sub) .
8 AM

swim race 52:03 [3] 1.2 mi (43:23 / mi)

slow, but heavy "traffic" from other swimmers and difficult visibility made me drift off course a lot here.

bike race 3:02:58 [5] 56.0 mi (18.4 mph)

this was exactly the intended pace. wind on much of the course. beautiful scenery and many wading birds in the wildlife refuge

run race 1:58:03 [5] 13.1 mi (9:01 / mi)
shoes: Montrail Streak

nice 8:30 pace on the first half, and the plan was to pick it up on the third and fourth quarters, but the tank ran dry. Hot sun and lack of a good breakfast or a snack during T2 had some effect on this.
