QOC Quantico Classic/Junior Nationals - Beaver Dam Run Long - Green (F35+)

Longer courses are not my forte, but I think I did okay with this. I can read this terrain pretty well. I was again able to execute almost everything according to plan, with a few hesitations mostly due to the rides being sometimes hard to see. I didn't take the best route out of the arena after the spectator control. I did, embarrassingly, mess up the penultimate control. Looking at my route, I was right on a line for it, but thought I was off. For some reason I decided to divert to the right and ended up checking out a control on the rocks that wasn't mine. (But then I knew where mine should be, and it was.) Overall, a good weekend navigation-wise and lots of fun even though I ended up 3/3 in my class.

It was nice to go back to the house and shower and take a nap before leaving. Bill also came back from his weekend trip so I spent a little more time with him and Phil and left at about 6. Things got exciting on the way home. First a tornado warning came on my phone and the radio and said the possible tornado cell would be near Glen Rock at 8, which was almost exactly when I would pass by there on 83. So I stopped at the welcome center and waited a bit for that line to pass through.

Once I got rolling again, just a few miles later (in the dark and the rain) driving in the right lane I just see this huge splash in the left lane ahead of me and this jeep flies in the air and lands on the roof. So I had to stop and call 911 for that, which I guess because of the storm took like 4 tries to go through. The people crawled out and were VERY lucky, she had some glass cuts on her leg and he had a dislocated or broken shoulder. So a bunch of us who stopped waited with them in the pouring rain until the police and ambulance came, meanwhile traffic is in the unblocked lane just whipping by the upside down car like nothing. This is the second accident I've had to help in the same area in 5 months while driving home from orienteering.

QOC Quantico Classic/Junior Nationals - Beaver Dam Run Middle - Green (F35+)

The only real error I had here was losing contact on the way to 2, bouncing off the ride after it. Was pretty clean aside from that, executing everything as intended. Took a conservative route to 6, using the indistinct trail along the N edge of the map and attacking from the corner of the big hill. Ended up with Jody from around 9-13, although he got ahead of me leaving 12 but then somehow was behind me again at 13. We couldn't figure out how that happened. Overall a good day, I'm just not fast enough right now.

Didn't do the afternoon relay, despite Sam trying to convince me. I wanted to go back and have the rest of the day with my friend Phil, whose house I stayed at for the weekend. We ended up going back into DC to walk around and had dinner at a British pub.

Walking around in DC - completely scuttled my original plans (Newseum and Botanical Garden) due to getting there later than expected. Ended up going to the American History museum for a bit and walking around the tidal basin to the Jefferson Memorial (cherry blossoms mostly gone already)
