O in the Pines - Pineridge South Middle - Green (F-Green)

Slow moving terrain for me - too much underfoot, especially rocks.

1 - Easy, down trail, cut in to control

2 - Cut through middle to the second trail (missed seeing small trail off to right) then uphill from rocky ground. Picked off 3 rootstocks into control.

3 - On straight line to trail, picked off boulder and then spur with boulder to right, then small marsh, to right of small hill to the bag.

4 - Straight, some hesitation, seemed to be seeing another small hilltop to NE but can't place on map.

5 - Wheels fell off here. Still not certain exactly what happened. Got in vagueish stuff and drifted... maybe left? Hit a trail which seemed like it should be the big one and turned right. Saw a control to my left and disregarded it, as it was on the wrong side. Also a sign far down the trail which I could not read at that distance without glasses. Found a piece of stone wall on trail, thought I was S of control, attacked from there. Nothing, but other people wandering around in there. Started looping around to reattack and thought to check that control I had seen just in case. Came right up to that sign. "Stone Piles" on a big arrow pointing. Doh. It was mine after all. Must have been on the smaller trail?

6 - Straight, not reading terrain well, but saw two reentrants approaching swamp and dropped into the correct one.

7 - Up to top figuring most certain attack. Found a trail and went to E, looking for little cliff but found the big cliff, dropped between cliffs to the rock.

8 - Straightish, to left of rocky ground mapped

9 - Across what looks like white but was really marshy, low pines, chunky underfoot. Came to big trail, couldn't decide on attack, poor visibility. Went from where the second trail curves in on the right. Was a little bit left but people nearby drew me in.

10 - Straight, could be seen from far off once out of the light green.

11 - Straight again, picking through rocks, climbed a little too much, came out above them for a while, then crossed big trail just below the cliff. Down into control no problem.

12 - Ran right to it, lots of other people now

13 - To trail briefly

14 - Easy

I had been intending to go to one meet or the other today. DVOA had Egypt Mills, in a cool area I don't get to see much, with other stuff to do in the area afterward. QOC had Patuxent, with some extra fun events, and I probably could have grabbed dinner with a friend in DC. However, after arriving home so late and not getting to bed until 1 AM, I just couldn't drag myself out this morning to drive 3-ish hours to either place.

So in the afternoon I went to Landis Woods and hiked around a bit, also exploring part of the adjacent multi-use trail. At least I got out.
