QOC Combat Village - Green

A rare chance to run on this map. I think I was only here for the A-meet ~14 years ago. Came down on Saturday and visited the Air and Space Annex, went to 2 shows with friends, and stayed overnight at their house.

Really messed up 2, of all controls. First found a cairn with no control, so thought it must be the one SW, but there wasn't another. Went back out to the trail and ended up tracing it all the way back to the road before being confident on where I could attack from. Did then find the control okay. I'm still not sure, until I look at Routegadget, what cairn I found first. The only possibility is the one SW of the house, but I can't believe I was over that far.

Cool going by the old house in the middle of the woods again, as I have a very distinct creepy memory of it from the A-meet. There was an Orange control on the inside corner of the building and on that side was a door with a small peaked porch roof. As I came around the building there was a turkey vulture just sitting there watching and it stuck out its wings.

Missed very slightly on 4, ending up a bit north and downslope, but knew if I just went along the side I would see it. And did.

5 to 6 worried me on paper but executed well. Passed through the northernmost reentrant with rocky patch, climbed up and saw the navigation marker, passed by West of the rocky knoll, and entered the pines right to the control.

So navigation a bit off, never really pushed physically either. But good to get out and start the season.

Lesson on Griffin. Bareback! For warmth!

Aside from that I have gone back into hibernation until it's suitable for life outside.
