West Point Middle Distance -- Black Cap Mountain -- Green Y (F-Green)

Moving fairly slowly over wet, slippery ground and rocks. Slightly foggy on the higher elevations which made it difficult to see features that were not close. Also it always takes me awhile to get into the mapping here. Too far left on 6 and spent a little time checking out a wrong reentrant which I should have known as it was in the green. Also too far left on 8 but recovered more quickly. That area had a lot of laurel not reflected by the map. On the way to 11 thought I would stay below the large cliff and in between the two others, on the same contor into the control, which did not pan out at all and I ended up having to backtrack slightly and go above everything.

Fairly happy with navigation, not so much with my time, but I didn't feel safe moving quickly in these conditions and terrain.

West Point Sprint - Camp Natural Bridge - Red/Blue (F-21+)

Not necessarily expecting great things which is good because I didn't get them :-) Moving decently through the first few controls, then slowed considerably. I never move well through the woods and that is where much of this sprint took place. Control 9 was the cruelest... visible from far away but on top of the 3m cliff! Still slow, bobbled around a little on 11, then kicked it up again moving through the spectator area. Crossing the field to 15 pretty much sapped the rest of my energy. Time for a mental meltdown! Blew 16 badly, ran directly to the wrong control which I had seen earlier, punched, and saw my mistake as I checked the cluesheet on the way out... had to backtrack into the *correct* control. This is what happens when I make assumptions and don't READ. Jogged through the rest and then laid down and died. The end.

Edit: Now that I see my per k time, it's not really that bad. For me. For a sprint that was mainly in the woods. After already running a West Point race.

Uphill slog to the start. Made it with 1 minute to drop my coat, chug water, and get into the call-up.

Walk through rocky crap back to the parking area.

Upped the incline from 1.5 to 2.

Absolutely crappy stressful morning. Nothing like a Monday where everything melts down. Thankfully the rest of the day improved.
