Orienteering race 18:11 [5] *** 2.5 km (7:16 / km) +75m 6:19 / km
spiked:10/12c

Team Trials-Sprint - my sprint was going really well, I was making good route choices and nailing each control with practically no hesitation, until I hit my second to last control. I was right on course, and even starting to pick up speed since I was nearing the end of the race so I don't know whether it was speed or exhaustion or a combination of both, but when I got to the control and checked my cluesheet I misread the code! I was so confused because I could have sworn that I was at the right control, but there was another control hung just another 20m away so I ran to that thinking maybe I hadn't gone far enough and when that code didn't match up I started to panic. I spent well over a minute running around checking the map and being totally baffled by the fact that I couldn't find the control until Angelica caught up to me and ran into the first control I came to and finally I double checked my cluesheet and magically the right code was there that time! Damn! I don't know what happened - clearly I just blacked out or something cause the code that I thought I was looking for all that time wasn't even on my clue sheet, it wasn't even close! (no reading 3s as 8s or confusing 6/9s just a completely random number)

I also wound up over running my last control as well due to trying to make up time/distraction from number 11.

Another lovely run - felt pretty good, nothing much more to say...

Stregnth Training 25:00 [4]

Core class - focused on obliques today but the hip flexors and transverse abdominals also got a good workout.

Road Running hills 42:00 [4]

I got a run in! Finally! Although it wasn't anything special it was a delightful run! Since it reached over 90 today (I'm psyched for the warm up, but that's a bit too much too fast!) I waited till a couple hours after work, rather than running at 6 after work (hurray for only an hour of overtime!) when it still felt oppresively hot and I think that made all the difference. The sun had sunk low enough that there was far more shade to run in, but it was still warm enough that I could run in just a sports bra and shorts! Loved it!

Since there's only a few more days till the Team Trials I don't feel like there is much I can do other than stay loose, relaxed and well rested. But, I decided that what I could do on today's run is just run some hill repeats without really working the hills just to "remind" my body that I'll be doing this a lot this weekend. So I ran about 20 min and then did 5 reps of the Hollywood Rd. hill (about 200m of steadily increasing incline.) Considering that I haven't run much in the last 3 weeks I felt surprisingly good, you could even say euphoric, but I'm pretty sure that was more a function of my happiness about getting out of work "early" and having enough time and energy left in the day for a run. Still, I'm not complaining!
