Orienteering 1:24:25 [5] 11.0 km (7:40 / km) +300m 6:45 / km

Billygoat - Felt a bit rusty at the start after close to 4hr of driving but once the pack began sprinting, headed by Erik, towards the first bag, my legs loosened up. Stayed behind Erik, John, Clem, and Ross for the first two bags despite seeing that we were drifting right on the way to second. Then after third I saw Erik and Ross jump into (swimming across) the stream just ahead of me and did just the same. As soon as I got out I realized that going right of the marsh wasn't an ideal route choice. So I jumped back into the stream, as Balter was "swimming" towards me and who claims to not seeing me, and began running on the left side of the marsh. After two minutes or so Erik appeared out of nowhere "from the marsh, me thinks" just in front of me and began pulling away once we hit the trail past the water stop. By the time I got to # 4 Erik was gone, but Ross and Nate were there. We kicked it to the right fork with # 5 being just off the trail and "ate" some green woods on the way to #6. Then Ross and Nate split to the right towards the # 7 and I headed to #8.

Saw Balter again on the way down who was wide left heading to #6, then just before #8 Wyatt popped into the sight from the right. After punching together, we head back around the marsh trying to hit the trail and must've been just high enough that it took us some time to finally get to it. Once on the trail past the water stop I began to pull away and was by myself to #9 and 10, then missed #11 a bit to the left and Wyatt was right there as well. We pushed through marsh on the way to #12 and once past the stone wall, the situation got a bit sketchy and we slowed down, I glanced back just to see that Alexei was right with us. Wyatt then spotted the rocks and the look on his face was a bit puzzled when he ducked behind the first rock and yelled that there was no bag, but immediately spotted it behind the next rock.

Then Wyatt splits to the right and I stay with Alexei to the left, we managed to hit the crossing between the two marshes "lakes?" where I almost broke my left ankle again which got stuck between a brunch and a rock but I caught myself just in time to prevent the real damage. Once we hit the trail I yelled to Alexei "all trails?" and began pushing on the trail going towards around the "C" shaped marsh just north of the straight line. We split the trail as I went to the right of the hill and Alexei went to the left, but met again just before the clearing where # 13 sat. As we walked uphill, I turned around and saw that Erik was catching up to us from below. We get to #14, the water stop, and Erik splits to the right going towards his skip, Alexei bombs down towards the road and I head down after him. As we pass the driveway where I though he would be turning to catch the trails going to #15, I see Alexei heading further down, "perhaps going towards the power line" I thought, so I stopped and took the driveway. Once I got to the power line two minutes later, I glanced down just to see Alexei swimming in the marsh way down below, I was on my own from there on. Hit #15 through 20 ok and then got really stuck on the way down towards #21 in the green woods near restricted area "house". Once out of there, I crossed the road and caught a bit of a trail in the cut-down area. Without really knowing where I was at relatively to others, I kept on pushing. Once at the last control, I saw that Will, Erik, and John where already there, but no one else.

Was happy to finish with some powder still left in my legs, and my result as well. On the way up, I was thinking that making into top 5 would've been a good result for me. Left ankle aches slightly now so I will need to watch it, my butt feels actually a bit better than last week so I am happy about it as well.
