Ran on the boardwalk at Coney Island. Very few people and surprisingly not really windy. Need to buy a new pair of sneakers, my Mezuno is getting beat down.

Did various stuff for hips, back, and stomach muscles + some for ankles.

Did some running around in the FP and Victory Field in absolutely gorgeous weather before the Jets game. Lots of leaves and small branches on the ground after yesterday's high winds though.

Orienteering 1:22:44 [3] 11.8 km (7:01 / km) +350m 6:06 / km

DVOA Long Champs @ Green Lane - Didn't really plan on going but eventually agreed to go + goats needed a ride. Plan was to go out and just be clean. After 3 min warmup out I went. I was fairly clean untill I lost a 1 min on #13, just didn't see it when I came off the trail and spend some time looking around. Then tweaked my L-ankle on some ulgy trail on the way to #14 and took it slowly for the next couple of bags. Took all trail/road/trail route on the #18, though Wyatt found a different route choice, that I ruled out once I crossed the bridge. Then had a little wobble on the #19 by going straigth rather than bailing out to the left and taking the road, and was clean for the rest of the way. I was happy with my run and managed for the most part to stick with my plan. Legs felt surprisingly light, though R-knee felt sore due to a couple of falls that I took after being tied up in the torns and landing akwardly. We left before Eddie's finish, so I don't know who won.

My MRI came in, nothing really major, though a bunch of little things here and there and a few abnormal readings in a few areas. Scheduled an appointment with my doc to discuss what's the course of actions and what he thinks I should do.

Skipping the A-meed in MA.

HH (Lowlander) - So the rumors were true! As we left K's house in a driving rain I couldn't help but curse at the weather.com that predicted a sunny weekend. Naturally, I didn't take my spiked icebugs and only took my puma XC shoes. "Crap", I am going to kill myself out there on all those rocks, so i planned for a slowly paced race.

Right from the start fast folks took off as if it was a WOC race. I settled in the middle of the pack and surely followed the train through the thick mnt. laured julst below the bag even though i clearly saw that i didn't need to go there. There were like 20 others who were trying to puch in a single SI unit at the same time, I was amazed that the unit didn't get torn up in pieces. On the way to second, once again I saw that the train ahead of me was heading into the mnt. laurel so I went around into the reentrant following Joe, who was the first one to punch at the contol. We got cought by the pack on the way down to the third control and once we cleared the stream and began climbing, Will and Ross split to the left, John Torrance kept pushing to the right staying on the trail, I went a bit left in between.

I punched behind John and Erik, Will and Ross must've punched ahead of us. Pack has slimmed conciderably by now and we still keept going at a race pace. On the way to four I saw John and Erik miss to the left and proceeded down the slop after punching the bag. Once I got down to the trail to my surprise, I saw Ross and Will just ahead of me who were heading toward a huge climb toward the # 5 by taking the straigher route. I split to the right and went all the way around following the trail and taking a well known reentrant when I once again reunited with Will and Ross.

We jumped back into the same reentrant after #6 where PG and a bunch of other people were running up towards the #5. After catching the trail and following it to the junction with the other trail that led to the Times Square, I saw Will and Ross disapear to the left. I dropped down and went around the hill to catch the trail that followed the edge of burned out section. No sign of Will or Ross, though about a minute later Will cought me up while I was contemplaiting of wether or not it was a good time to start cutting across the burned area. Decided that it wasn't a good time yet and procedded toward the next ridge that looked quite clean. We ran on top of bare rocks and from there it was an easy bag for us.

Will took the lead on the way to #8 and we stayed on top of the bare rocks going SW around the green marsh and huge cliffs on the other side (which Ross apprently ascented on his way to #8). We kind of wondered around the control and relocated at the 2nd stream just past the control.

#9 didn't turn out to be a good one for us. We started downhill and I saw #13 just above me, "Crap" i remember thinking, and tried to stay high as Will went even lower. I lost a sight of him and only saw him again when he was clearly climbing up to gain some lost elevation. I ran further a long the shelf and started climbing as well. I saw Will leaving #9 to never see him again.

From there I felt kind of sluggish, and I spent some time wondering around #10 in the light fog just to see Joe punch it in front of me. "Woa, what the heck am I doing?" Then pretty much followed him to the #11 and #12 where I overshot the bag and got cought by a whole bunch of people including Erin and her dad. I figured that I run out of gas and simply needed to just make it home. We all took to the right to the trail to the #13, and on top the the bare rocks Waytt came out of no where to take the lead of the pack. I dropped lower than I wanted to and again spent some time wondering around #13 where I saw Ross comming towards me.

I began jogging down towards #14 and got passed by other Sergei and a pack of may be five or six people. 'Hmm, not good I thought" my legs refused to move and my head wasn't really thinking anymore, so I kept moving slowly and punched the bag just after the pack. Then to # 15 and to the finish, to simply be happy to be done.

This was an awsome experience, glad I made it without any major falls, which I was really surpised of given that I ran it in my Puma sneakers.

Thanks again to HVO for putting on such a fine event!
