21mi of easy towpath, then jumbled PA rocks forever

RELOADED FIT file from Garmin, and got more data. Yay? Splits still incorrect. Had to delete comments, too ... sorry Karl! Sigh.

That's the hardest course I've ever attempted, even with the 21mi of towpath (easily jogged in ~4:20). Lack of core fitness, rock-dancing skill, and interest in maintaining the focus required to work my way through endless fields of rock stopped my day at 37mi (AS 6 Indian Steps). Excellent aid, friendly participants, weather was as good as it could get for PA in July, so at least an excellent adventure while it lasted.

The winners finished in over 16 hours (after a sub-3 hour first 21mi), and the two or three leaders through AS 6 where I dropped also dropped there, which says a lot about this race. Of 70 starters, something like 40 dropped (update when final results posted). 62 starters, 31 finished ... better than I'd thought, as I left a couple of hours before 1PM finish cutoff. Amazing!!

Food, gear, etc were pretty good. Shoes, socks, old Inov-8 shorts were excellent. Needed to have more than exactly the right amount of food in drop bags or to spend the time at ASs to fuel up. Yay for hiking poles, which certainly saved me from a fair number of potentially brutal falls in the rocks. I really got some good practice with them, and should continue to practice with them more: build the skill and the muscle.

First race with the Garmin Enduro: battery was insanely-great, but something wonky with splits and track and all that. Totally incorrect values if you look at the track. It hiccoughed at some point, too, and showed the "gear" icon. I'm going to get in touch with Garmin support to see what the heck is going on and if there's something to be done, because it was annoying, and more annoying now as my data is wonked. But otherwise light and easy to read, with all of the data I like.
