Bike 20:00 intensity: (10:00 @2) + (10:00 @3)
shoes: Moser Speed Sora 20

Got drenched on the way to Orienteering on my bike.
Had a scary sliding moment on a steep-ish wet hill with cars too close so comfort. Zapped a bit of my energy, but I think ok by the time i ran.

Run warm up/down 5:00 [2]
shoes: Inov8 Trail ROC 245

For staying warm (being wet) as much as preparing for the pain of hills!

Orienteering 27:33 intensity: (11 @1) + (9 @2) + (25 @3) + (13:40 @4) + (13:08 @5) 4.86 km (5:40 / km)
ahr:157 max:166 shoes: Inov8 Trail ROC 245

Park-O No 1: Braye Park: 4th of 60 on Long Course in 27.30 (6.37 behind Mr Massey)

Trail-ROCs really not up to the job on the wet slopes, especially downhill.
Mid green I'd come through to no. 2, wasn't representative. Much slower going elsewhere.
Ok planning ahead generally, but not so good on two legs. I guess I lost about 90 seconds on both:

5 - Silly attempt to run through the mid green when it wasn't that much further to run around to the west.
22 - Wary of all the slipping I was doing, I didn't think through my concern about steps / steep slope on the short route. Dumbly, I went back through more mid green, and covered 50% extra distance.

feeling those hills!
Spiky ball and foam roller etc

Planned run at Gretley / Blue Gums for the morning cancelled since the event is now shifting to a completely new area. Pilates maybe?

Note

Planned afternoon run at Gretley / Blue Gums ditched as timing consequence of trying to resolve work / income issues.

Looking marginally brighter now. Verbal agreement (plus handshake) from another academic for work to cover the gap left by previous main gig. Chatting in corridors, it would seem, is very much worthwhile!

Well needed to help recover from both mental stresses and physical efforts of recent days.

O-Shea 2-Day : Pairs Score

I didnt know / read in advance whether this one was street or bush, so I brought shoes to cover either. I had a dilemma when when the organisers told me it was the course was both.

We guessed in advance that a street vs bush split might also be a good way to divide the controls between us (only the final control needed to be punched by both), so I kept the road shoes on. Our planned split was verified in an instant once we got to look at the map: Me collecting all street controls and Rob all bush controls.

I ran a fairly clean race again, with the only boo-boos being a) small wobble heading into nr 13 as the private / public boundary was not clear on the ground, and b) taking a while to spot the second laneway on the way from 3 to 4. The map today was much better than last night, but I still think the private housing land (mapped with thin vertical hatch lines) should be shown as 'Olive' (as per IOF mapping)

I expected Rob to be back to final control before me, but I had to wait for him (but only about 2 mins). We were the first team across the line (beat first short course pair too), and in the end overall Long Pairs Winners.

GPX based time a bit over real time since I forgot to stop watch a finish line.

A bit weird to know my name will be going on a trophy alongside elites stretching back to the late 80's.

I'm now looking forward to (hopefully) seeing the team scores / splits published, so I can decipher the margins involved etc.

The event probably is a tad biased towards 20-40 year old male teams, and maybe could do with some handicapping or time adjustments / conversions to take account of gender and age of team members.

O-Shea 2 Day (Pairs Event) : Relay Race (with Rob) Medium Leg - Part A

Time from GPX file short since I didn't start watch properly (again)
Official Time - 20:59

I did the shorter / easier of the two 'courses' in the "Long Pairs" relay.
We each went out twice. My one error was a reasonable one; I left the pivot control next to the waterhole in the wrong direction (the loop back to the same control was CCW, but I'd done 150m in CW direction before i realised).

Otherwise good, clean, fun race.

New Innov8s went well (with balls of both feet taped in advance)

Orienteering race 27:25 intensity: (20 @2) + (30 @3) + (6:11 @4) + (20:24 @5) 5.67 km (4:50 / km)
ahr:161 max:172 shoes: Inov8 Trail ROC 245

O-Shea Night-O (Street) at Summerland Point : DNF

A few minor wobbles, and questioning self re route choices.
Got annoyed at the mapping; Hard to tell the difference between the white of runnable forest / bush and private residential property (which should have been OLIVE if mapped correctly). It think this distraction factored in me failing to go to control no 8 (114).

Luckily the event takes the faster of the two team members ... which would have been Rob anyway: he finished c 30 secs after me. (Edit: Judging by splits, had I not missed no. 8, I'd have been about 3mins later finishing.

Shit, busy and stressy day.
News of work income being slashed = PhD in serious doubt

In no mood for normal training, but coming fairly close to smashing stuff and / or throwing heavy things!
