Note

Today is a complete rest day. Ate lots. Really. Trying to get an idea why I felt so weak in the middle then got pretty clearheaded and lively towards the end of the RTH. Some possibilities: hypothermia (hope not), not enough food, dehydrated (not likely), going too fast and used up all my glucose (hypoglycemia).

My guess: a combination of hypothermia/glycemia. I usually don't eat much before a race to minimize chances of having to do a #2. Maybe not a good strategy. And I did get real cold while waiting at CP11. I sat down on a rock. All sweaty in the breeze.

Next race: adjust food intake. small breakfast but more gels more often during. Adjust clothes to minimize sweating and getting soaked.

O' race (Trail Run) 6:15:00 [4] 30.0 km (12:30 / km)
shoes: Saucony 9

I went into the race with the intention of trying "hard". this time I wanted to push myself, not just poke along. And I did. As a result, this felt like the hardest O I've ever done. Very comparable to a couple of marathons I've done where the pain is sufficient to reduce me to walking lots. Understanding team-mates who were supportive would have been nice. But, you know, sometimes that's the way it goes.

Endless hills, water, mud, yes, a typical fall Raid the Hammer. Now I'm home, eating again, drinking plenty of water and trying to warm up.
