PT: R Shoulder SLAP 45:00 [3]

Milestone:

First time I have been able to lie on floor and reach straight overhead, touching floor (with left arm pushing it down or holding 5lb dbell), since surgery. 8:00-11:00 still 6 inches off ground.

Extra time spent on roller and LAX ball.

Note
slept:10.0 weight:190lbs

Legs feel fresh, awesome!
Huge sleep.

Running 50:18 [3] 5.8 mi (8:40 / mi) +624ft 7:52 / mi
shoes: Hoka Stinson Evo (Black)

Dirt Mulholland from Canoga/Ensenada x

Ran super ez down DM to Topanga.
Flipped it, ran up to Santa Maria. Stretched. Deuce.
Backdown to Topanga, 6:40s, and back past car up the asphalt and back. Striders thrown in during last 10mins.

Strides on asphalt in Hokas feels odd-so mushy.

Ran here to stay close to home/Alla is sick. Also to avoid fires/smoke.

Fire broke out during my run, right at Topanga/DM!!!!

Mega Sleep. feels awesome
Finally started watching Ken Burns' National Parks: America's Best Idea last night on NetFlix. Why did I wait so long? Great first episode on Yosemite.

Running 1:20:07 [3] 7.4 mi (10:50 / mi) +1778ft 8:49 / mi
shoes: Hoka Stinson Evo (Black)

Backbone trail between Old Topanga and STUNT.

Picked route based on best chance for smoke-free air, close to home.

LOVE THIS SECTION. Steep, switchbacks, soft dusty trail interspersed with
sharp rock/techy. I know I've done it before, but I don't remember it. It was winter 07/07 when Cyril and I ran and/or rode all of the backbone back and forth for a few months getting ready for Baja Travesia.

From the top/saddle, clear views down towards Malibu, smoke wasn't bad.
Felt like I could go all day, but didn't bring any water or cals. Pace was slow, but HR was high much of the time with the steep climbing bits. 1700+ feet in 3.8 miles isn't anything crazy but it did remind me a bit of Mt Si. Hot, but shaded in the tunnel of trees up the singletrack 90% of this is running through a tunnel of SHRUBBERY. Views into the canyon, steep rock walls. awesome. Real mountain run style.

Can't wait to go longer and connect to the next section Stunt to Piuma. I've been on it recently, Sandstone/TriPeaks over the winter, but I have never run Old Topanga to Piuma and back. The fire zone starts just west of that so it will be a while.

Running back down was a blast in the Hokas, forgot how steep the climb was...

Wanted to run extra at the end down at Old Topanga but decided to keep it at 1hr20 today. baby steps.

Solid sleep

Wildfires! Smoky outside, unsafe to breathe. Shitballs.
Didn't expect smoke to fill the valley, but it did. Trails closed too.

Reminds me of Encinitas fires in Oct 07 when I lived
Down there. That was apocalyptic.

Headed south tomorrow to avoid breathing this stuff

Ate way too much last night. Extra Yams, some plaintain chips. ok a LOT of plaintain chips. two (5%) beers. Feel good this a.m. though. Taking baby steps with the running, but so far so good. The every other day thing ensures recovery and rebuilding, letting my joints get re-accustomed to running. It's been several years since I have run much long stuff, consistently. 2007? Going to avoid the mistakes I made in 07 and watch for the warning signs.
