Cycling 1:15:00 [3] 21.0 mi (16.8 mph) +984ft

Bike Accident...

Planned on a 4hr ride up PCH and back with Newport Coast repeats.

INSTEAD, after my warmup, about 35 minutes into the ride, riding through Laguna Beach on PCH, a jackass walks in front of me as I am riding across an intersection WITH traffic, no stop sign, no light, he just spaced out. I slammed on the brakes, immediately made head-to head contact. My temple colided with his forehead. Nice. I went down hard.

Contusion on occipital bone/corner of my eye, contusion on cheekbone, contusion on lateral knee area, lacerations on left knee, right palm, right ankle.

Ambulance came pretty fast, cops too. Since everything seemed to work, I didn't file a report etc., just was pissed that I would have to soft pedal home. I really wanted to finish my 4 hr ride. but that's not a good idea with a blown cleat! bummer.

Tore the speedplay cleat off my shoe, ripped up my handlebars, ripped up my saddle.

Rode home easy obviously. Hard to pedal without clipping in and a without the destroyed cleat.

SO, be careful out there folks!

Two guys on my Sho Air bike team were injured badly after crashing in the last week. one is in the ICU and one is in recovery after being in Serious condition. I was lucky!

Cycling 3:01:00 [3] 55.0 mi (18.2 mph) +2352ft

Same ride as Tuesday, except moved HR limit from "Easy"/level 1 to
upper steady. Again, a long, deep warmup and mostly kept it Steady/2 pace. Knee still sore, but strong. maybe subpatellar bruise.

Temporarily out of Vitargo S2, so I used some Perpeteum. Gross!

I can't believe I used that stuff for so many years. Almost instantly my stomach complained, and by the end of the ride I felt bloated. I don't mind the taste, but the maltodextrin and sugar don't work for me.

Very easy warmup for 10 minutes, then HR of 160-170 on the trail, which is about 2 miles long. Turned around at top of the trial, on San Joaquin, ran back slow since it was dark, and in the thick brush footing was sketchy. 3 stream crossings.
