Event: ROC - Oatka Creek Park
 

Orange course at Oatka Creek. First time I've ever had to wait to register for an ROC event - very impressive turnout. Nice day, though a little cool when the wind picked up.

Was too conservative on #1, went looping around through the meadow to avoid going through green. The better approach would have been along the fence. I'm apprehensive about getting bogged down in mush so early in a race until I see what the green's like in other parts of the map. Ran pretty clean from 2-5 then had some trouble with 6 - bearing too far E through the field and hitting the wrong trail too far N. Finally figured out where I was and rode the contour lines along the ridge, to find the flag hanging over a yawning pit. Hopefully nobody fell into that -

7-11 were clean, but had difficulty picking out which set of leaves were the trail coming into #12. No problems with 13.

Good course on an interesting map.

Played Fox and the Hound with Steve on the Yellow course. Just a hint - the safe money's usually on the fox.

Not only couldn't make up the two-minute stagger - but actually lost over a minute to Steve on the run. Got slowed down following the fences to #2 and #4, probably should have stayed on a trail, at least heading towards #2.
