Row 1:30:00 [3]

Beautiful morning -- calm and 45F. Kept it steady at 18-20, didn't worry about drills or other nonsense, just rowed smoothly and enjoyed the morning. Left side back and shoulders need a little break.

Row Circuits (4x) 1:40:00 [3]

Eased a bit on some of weights and the intensity of the erg pieces to help me go the distance. Cut the CD to 5 min because I had had enough. Overall, solid workout. I was certainly tired but I was still solid at the end and not dragging.... ok, dragging just a little.

Erg 52:00 [3]

2 [ 4/1 + 3/1 + 2/1 + 1/1 + 1/1]
1st: 18/20/22/24/24
2nd: 20/22/24/26/26
Windy with a dash of breezy so no rowing. Good workout. Working but not too hard. My splits were quite good. Lisa did this with me and that certainly helped the time go by faster..

Bike 55:00 [3]

Still windy and cool. Kept it easy. Today I have aching traps and rhomboids on the right side.

Run 48:00 [3]

Tired but my legs felt pretty good. Unfortunately, my outside right calf started tightening up. I walked, stretched, jogged, walked, stretched, jogged,.... my way home. Sigh........

Row 2:00:00 [3]

Heart of Texas Regatta in Austin.

217 Mens Open 2x Sunday 9:48
Someone scratched so they cancelled the heats and we go straight to finals later in the day. Pat and I didn't find out until we were checking in to launch. Back to the trailer. Eventually made my way back to the car and just chilled listening to the radio for a while.

234A Mens Open 1x (Heat—3 boats advancing) Sunday 12:24pm
1.   Z. Ellison (Texas Rowing Center) 5 3:55.60
2.   M. Hartwell (Tulsa Rowing Club) 3 3:57.10
3.   T. Carr (White Rock Boathouse) 2 4:01.57
4.   B. Price (Tulsa Rowing Club) 4 4:23.88
Stiff south winds. I got in a good solid WU (typical High SR + Pat) in the bay behind the island. Ellison was out in front marking us, while Price fell back. I wasn't stressing too much but thought maybe of pushing to take Micah to earn a better lane in the final. However, I really started fading at 750 and knew I didn't have it in me. I eased the last 150 settling for 3rd but even cruising in felt hard. Ooof. Tough way to start the day. Zach Ellison is a huge "youngster" with a sub 6 2k and was on the US National U23 team a few years back. He was toying with us. Pat had an easier time in his heat never being push and finishing 1 sec slower then me even with my major fade.

203 Mens Open 4x (Final) Sunday 2:00pm
1.   J. Macfarlane (Bay Area Rowing Club of Houston A) 3 3:28.60
2.   J. Mitrowski (Austin Rowing Club A) 4 3:28.95
3.   T. Carr (FWRC/WROCK) 5 3:30.13
4.   K. Lim (St. Edwards University Rowing Club A) 2 4:11.91
Stroke = me. 3 = Bailey Paterson (WROCK). 4= John Sanders (OKC). 1 in Pat. Pat led us through a good warm and some starts. We were just about even off the start and first 20 strokes but they got a 1/2 length once we settled. We put in a couple surges to pull back but would then take a wind gust or get off line and fall back again. I couldn't see the Speedcoach and so just set the cadence by feel. Turns out we started in the 37-39 range and rowed the bulk fo the race at 33. I was pegged at redline and coughing up a storm afterward. Ooof ooof.

217 Mens Open 2x (Final) Sunday 3:36pm
1.   T. Carr (FWRC/WROCK) 3 3:41.40
2.   B. Turner (Tulsa Rowing Club A) 2 3:42.65
3.   E. Cornet (Austin Rowing Club L) 1 3:54.09
4.   A. Berman (Austin Rowing Club A) 6 3:54.43
5.   J. Andrews (Texas Rowing Center A) 4 4:44.62
6.   K. Cook (St. Edwards University Rowing Club A) 5 5:04.31
Started well and were pretty even with Tulsa (Micah) and Austin L (Eric and Tony) through 500. Austin started to fade and we were a half boat length up on Tulsa. After the start we locked in at 32-32.5. Pat reminded us to rowed relaxed. We took the wind gusts in stride. It was a close race but we rowed very much in control and were ready to hammer the last 150 if needed. It was a tough race but I certainly felt better than in the first two. I had reminded myself to sit tall and exhale strongly so I could get good breaths. Maybe that helped. Still coughing a lot after.

234 Mens Open 1x (Final from Heats) Sunday 5:30pm

1.   P. McDonough (Ft. Worth Rowing Club, Inc.) 3 3:46.70
2.   M. Hartwell (Tulsa Rowing Club) 2 3:47.82
3.   T. Carr (White Rock Boathouse, Inc.) 6 3:55.30
4.   C. Shafer (Tulsa Rowing Club) 5 4:11.20
Delayed about 20 min due to start mishaps in the races ahead of us. I was certainly tired going into this but I had a reasonably positive attitude -- enjoy the day and do the best I can. I had an ok start but Pat and Micah were clearly stronger. Through 500 I was behind with bow to stern but they pulled away after that. I kept solid pressure throughout at 30 spm. I finished strong but not sprinting since I didn't have anyone to race against. Overall, a decent race. Wish I was closer but all things considered, I'll take it.

After all that, packed up the boat, hit the road, got take out from McDonalds, and was home by 10:15. Long day and good day.

Bike 52:00 [3]

Cold (33F) morning meant their were few bikers and a lesser number of runners out. Nice morning though. Made sure to keep the gear low.

Run 25:00 [3]

After biking I packed up and hit the road. Low 60s and windy in Austin. Went for a short jog to wake my legs up from the drive.
