Orienteering 1:08:02 [3]

US Non Champs
7.2km, 180 Cm = 68:02

Calf report: Jogging a bit before the race it felt decent enough that I decided to run as normal and come what may. A couple twinges during the course but otherwise, no problems. An honest race as far as physical output.

Nav. report: I did a 180 out of C2, paused after 30s, stared at the map and terrain for 30, then 30 back to C2 and on my way. To C14 I took a very inefficient trail route for maybe a 1min loss. But those were minor compared to my blunder from C15 to the GO control. I could swear I checked my compass leaving the C but somehow I hit the trails to the east and then mayhem ensued. I relocated in the little square field off the road a good 400m S of the control. Total loss around 5 min.

All that said, my other controls were decent and most of the time I felt in command of my nav. That felt good and was fun. I remember at Telemark running defensively and scared that disaster was always imminent. That certainly wasn't the case this weekend. Thus, given the amount of O training I've done this fall, I'm satisfied.

Overall report: A great weekend of orienteering. Thanks BGR! Too many meetings though -- pretty much every minute I wasn't on the course or eating I was in a meeting.

We now return to our regularly scheduled programming already in progress....

Orienteering 1:25:00 [3]

Red course: 7.6km with 280ish climb, in 81:24

Totally thrilled that I was able to run the whole course. I tripped once and had a slight calf twinge but it never got worse. I walked up the hills, ran flat footed and tripped a lot but I was able to keep moving at a jog.

Also very happy that I had a pretty clean race. Only on the way to C2 did I get off track and loose ~4 min. But otherwise, I made plans, executed plans, and spike the controls.

Loved the map and terrain. If I didn't have to go to a BOD meeting I would have loved to go right back out into the woods.

Orienteering 1 [3]

Low key "model" race. Cold, windy and rainy. I bundled up to avoid catching a cold and walked the 3k course. Very nice terrain. Calf did well.

Erg 1:00:00 [3]

D-erg: random
Too much rain and wind. It was a long 60 minutes.

Row 1:22:00 [3]

D: steady state
spms: 20-22
I went down to the boathouse late so that I could erg after the Jrs finished practice. However, the winds were not as bad as predicted so I hit the water. Soon it was dark and I had the stars, a crescent moon and pelicans for company. Finished up around 8pm and then chatted with Kelly who was doing boat repairs. Nice evening.

When a map takes me far out in the woods, or when I have I'm feeling good in the boat, I am reminded that I am a pretty lucky guy.

Note

Calf still not good for running. I am afraid I might be walking my courses this weekend. Bummer.
