map hiking 2:41:35 [3] 3.93 mi (41:10 / mi) +177m 36:06 / mi

Up at the Water Gap with Clem streamering Billygoat controls. Could not park where we wanted; the park roads - the gravel/dirt ones - were not plowed and were a solid sheet of ice, at least an inch thick, covered by 6 inches of snow. Tried the road down to Stuckey Pond - no way, car started sliding all over the place. Clem got out of the car to see what was going on and immediately fell. Got out of there and tried Big Egypt down to the gravel pit, same thing. Ended up parking in front of the last house on Big Egypt where the road was plowed (and paved) and going from there. Started walking down the road and realized it was just as icy. Even in the woods there was ice underneath the snow. Really crazy and tough going.

Two intrepid folks at least were able to drive down those roads and were out ice fishing on the ponds. I'm amazed their vehicles made it.

I visited a decent number of controls but then went totally brain dead on the last control I wanted to see. Just could not read the contours and I decided to bail; I'd had enough and my feet were starting to get cold. Got to the road - the park road - and started hiking back to the car. Was looking at something on the map and slipped on that ice. Took a doozy of a fall. Good thing I've been stretching and going to yoga or I'm sure I would have pulled or torn something since my legs went in two different directions. Hopefully I won't be too sore tomorrow!

At least the woods were lovely!

Ran a little more than on Tuesday but the trails, in the meadow especially, are still really muddy and torn up by bikes and horses.

Oh yeah, we were tough. We got out in the rain and the mud and did the workout. Although we were not so tough that we didn't walk a bunch of the meadow that was really slippery.

A miracle: I no longer have to teach the Tuesday night class that I thought I was going to have cover.

Wasn't sure what I was going to do today. Initially planned to go to the Water Gap but I slept late and I figured the ground was probably really wet and that it would not be all that pleasant so decided the long drive was not worth it. Hopefully the weather next weekend will be better.

Then I got my butt out the door and still didn't know what I wanted to do. Decided on hill repeats on a different hill. It was a tough workout - tried to keep an even pace up the hill and even though I was just hiking it was tough not to slow down. Surprised I got faster - it seemed like each time up was harder.

Hmm...seems like the top of the hill got blown off after the 3rd time up. Funny I didn't notice.
