More control streamering at FCN. Beautiful day today and I managed to be in nice woods or on trails for all but a few minutes here and there. Today felt much easier than Friday.
Still have some work to do to get the courses where I want them but things are coming along.
And the gnats were barely a nuisance today. Yay!!
Note
Had to meet someone early this morning (well, early considering how late I've been sleeping in lately!) so since I was already on the road went to FC. Bummed to have missed the relay excitement at the World Games.
What struck me about the games was that they basically had sprint maps and that was it. They ran a sprint, a middle and a mixed sprint relay. I'm sure some purists are thinking, "not real orienteering". But in terms of getting it out there in front of people, this seemed to work fine. Tested different skills than an epic long on say Harriman terrain, but it allowed for compact start/finish windows and lots of spectating. I wasn't there, so this is just musings from what I saw on the live streaming, but again, in terms of including it in the World Games, it would appear that this sort of format is doable just about anywhere.
I'm glad it happened and I'm glad we were able to send our athletes. It would be nice if the rules change a bit and at least two teams from each region get to compete. Take the top two teams from each region, the host country and then the top teams from the most recent WOC until the limit is filled. Again, just random musings.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching. Prompted me to make the donation to the Team that I've been meaning to make for a while now.
