orienteering 53:18 [3]

Brown course. Much better outing but not good enough. Finished thinking I had done really well only to find I was beat by 2 minutes. In looking over my route, I did a lot of "oh yeah, I kind of goofed here for a minute or so" and "oh that's right, I was a little confused here and had to really slow down". Do that once or twice and that's all it takes to go from a really good run to just a pretty good run. Will have my work cut out for me in Wisconsin.

orienteering race 1:10:28 [4]

Brown Course. What a disaster. Easily 10 minutes of errors, mostly on yellow/orange level controls. 2 and 3 were okay although route choice was suspect for both, 4 was good, 5 I was a little off because I was trying not to go the same way as someone who punched 4 with me which was stupid, 6 was horrendous. I start trying to navigate carefully, realize the control is on a stream junction and think don't be a moron just get to the stream as fast as you can and turn left until you hit the flag. I do that and don't see the flag and don't see the flag and don't see the flag and get convinced I must have missed it so head back up the stream but recognize something and turn around and eventually go far enough and get it. I think that when I headed for the stream fast, I drifted way right and so was much further up the stream than I realized. Just plain dumb but at least 5-6 minutes wasted. Give myself a stern talking to and then blow the next control for a couple minutes by just not concentrating. I knew I needed to turn off and didn't. Don't know why, just didn't. Relocated relatively quickly but never should have had to. Incredibly slow to the next control because I can't see the trail under the line that goes right to the road crossing. Blow right by the next control - a boulder 5 feet from the road - because I'm thinking about everything I've done wrong instead of thinking about what I need to be doing. Finally start concentrating and am clean for the last bit which apparently gave some people problems. Yuch.

Note

Ugh. Woke up with what turned out to be a bad cold. But I felt bad enough that I postponed my dentist appointment until Friday as I wasn't sure if I was coming down with the flu or not. And decided not running was a good idea.

trail (short hill loop) 36:45 [3]

What? Oh yeah, I did this at 6am starting in the dark with a headlamp. Felt pretty good running just couldn't go particularly fast.

strength & stretching (core DVD) 40:00 [3]

Yoga/Pilates 1:15:00 [1]

Small class; lots of handstands and backbends, both of which I can sort of do but neither of which I'm very good at.

The studio will be in a new place starting Thursday and it was weird to be there with only the very bare necessities left. We had the lights on really low though, partly to make it seem a little less barren, so we were almost practicing in the dark. Kind of nice.
