Note

Some leisurely walking around the nature trails and such at Fundy National Park on a gorgeous day.

orienteering race 1:43:42 [4] **** 4.5 km (23:03 / km)

Another challenging course. I took trail options a few times and it was quite worth the extra distance; probably should have done it a couple more times. Aside from route choice, today's errors were all quite small and easily corrected. Still, it's very physical terrain and technically challenging so slow going. But lots of fun and not boring. Thanks to the Smiths and Hotts for doing the event; hopefully it will be good preparation for Fundy.

Event: Fishbones

orienteering race 26:11 [3] 2.0 km (13:06 / km)

Fishbones Sprint - Course 2
Fun little sprint course in the rain. Got lucky twice when I made a route choice based on whim - the alternatives in both cases had uncrossable features that I hadn't noticed. Misread a line of cliffs as a trail for my only real error. Didn't push particularly hard knowing there was another race in a few hours. Started to rain at about control #3 but didn't really pour until after I finished.

orienteering race 1:34:29 [3] **** 3.1 km (30:29 / km)

Fishbones Middle Distance
An excellent course in very technical terrain. Lots of small errors and two fairly big ones. The big ones were of the "I'm close but I just can not make sense of the map so have no idea where to go" type, both in a semi-open area up on a ridge. Looking at the map later with reading glasses (and not my contacts) and good light (not the overcast grayness and mist), I can sort out a bit more - not sure if it would have been enough to avoid the floundering. The course was quite physically demanding with lots of steep downhills and high ground cover over rocky footing. The challenge was great fun though and I had a blast. We'll be in the same area for Sunday so we'll see if I learned anything.

orienteering 51:33 [3]

An excellent CSU training at Franklin Park on my way north with a side trip down memory lane as I took a quick tour of MIT on my way in.

Ian Smith set a fun little course in an interesting little park. The first few controls were not so good (1:7500 took getting used to; my brain was a bit deadened by all the driving), but then I settled in and had a good time. Although I stopped one control short of the end just not seeing it on the map. Hopefully I'll be a bit more focused in Canada!

Note

My sister owes me. I'm staying at her house in Wolfeboro and she neglected to close the screen on the sliding glass doors the last time she was here. So this gigantic spider built a humongous web across inbetween where the screen and door go so opening the door and closing the screen put the web and spider inside. This spider was huge and could fly and was really creepy but I cleaned it all out so I could sleep with the door open. Just thinking about it gives my shivers.

Yoga/Pilates 1:00:00 intensity: (30:00 @1) + (30:00 @2)

Another good class. Legs were like jelly after a few things. Arms did better though.
