One silly route choice and one major error. On the route choice I thought about going a bit out of my way to take a trail route around a steep hillside but then decided how bad could it be and just went straight. And regretted it. Had to sit down to get down and even that felt treacherous. Then thought I was reading things into what I knew would be a tough control, but my track shows I was way off. Got lucky - after way too long - and found a control later on my course and was able to use that to relocate. I was not where I thought I was!

But the weather is fabulous and it's fun to be orienteering on challenging maps.

Although it looks like I'm walking in the water, I think the GPS track may be fairly accurate. They have completely rebuilt the beaches with a new huge dune and then a flat beach that is much wider than it used to be.

I was bopping along doing reasonably well, taking an aggressive route to 8 and feeling good that it worked perfectly then headed off to 10 which was a long route choice leg. Suddenly realized I hadn't gone to 9 so had to turn around and go back. Glanced at my watch wondering how much time I had lost and realized I never started my watch. So this is the rest of the time on the course.

Spiked most controls and am happy with my route choices. There is a large trail network and the legs that were set and the swathes of out-of-bounds made for some interesting choices. I tried to jog on the trails but my knee was getting pretty sore by the end. It's been bothering me a bit the last few days (ever since the marathon car drive actually which I think is the culprit) although it feels fine this evening.

Class at the gym. Almost didn't go - stayed up late last night and so woke up late this morning and so barely had time to get there and thought about bagging it but didn't. Good class - not sure if I was working harder or if the AC wasn't cranked up but I was really sweating today.

Session with trainer plus warm up by walking to gym (not logged) and some time on the treadmill (logged - fast walking 10% incline) plus the abductor and adductor machines after the session just because I felt like it and then the walk home (not logged).

Nothing especially exciting in the session; it was a new trainer and we were both feeling each other out.

Hiking around the middle terrain. I'm tired.

We have had rain the last three days from about 2:15 until 4pm. Luckily we've been either done by 2 (today), or able to be inside (yesterday and Wednesday) for some of it but the drive back to where we're staying each day has been in downpours. Serious downpours with thunder and lightning.
