running 39:00 [3]

Had to be at school all day but it was too nice out to be in the gym so ran on the track. Did 4 laps at a steady pace (2:25,2:22,2:25,2:21) then did 4 laps of "intervals" - hard on the straightaways and easy on the curves (2:12,2:21,2:25,2:19), then had to walk some of the next lap (3:06) to recover, and finished with with 3 laps at normal pace (2:35,2:24,2:24). The last 9+ minutes of the workout were mostly stretching. It was interesting that I had to go so slowly to recover during the easy intervals, that the times for those laps were almost the same as the others; I pushed pretty hard for the 100m straights.

running 52:00 [3]
weight:115lbs

Normal jog down into the valley and then 3 mile run on the Drive. Unfortunately my watch has decided to go bonkers and I can't retrieve my splits. And I was actually quite curious to see what my half mile splits were as I felt fast for the first two and then totally croaked. I think I did the 3 miles in about 28 minutes total. Too tired to jog any of the hill home. Hey, I was proud that I even got out today as it's been raining since I got up. But I was enjoying myself despite being soaked until that last mile...

orienteering race 1:40:01 [4] 7.8 km (12:49 / km)

Red course at Brandywine. Fun course. Botched one leg (long leg from 2 to 3 - misread the map out of the control, recovered badly and took a stupid route down the hill, and then made another error on the trail), but was clean after that. The rocks took their toll on my knees. I'll be interested in looking at splits once some people post theirs to see how much I lost on that leg and how much I lost just by being slow.

walking 39:00 [1]

Went out to run but my knees were really aching. So I just walked although I did try to walk fast and not slow down on the hills. The bad news is that it wasn't just my "bad" knee that hurt, but both of them. It may be time to get the bike out again and stop trying to run so much.

running 41:01 [3]
weight:116lbs

Couldn't decide what to do for today's workout, but once I started I knew that whatever I did it wasn't going to be much. I felt really awful - tough breathing and legs felt like lead. I jogged down to Forbidden Drive and then did a mile in about 10:20. I almost quit thinking I'd just hike on the trails a bit winding my way home, but decided at the last minute to keep running. I did another half in about 5 minutes and then just for the heck of it did intervals (100 paces hard, 100 easy) for another half mile before calling it a day and heading home. For good measure I jogged about half the hill home.

walking 1:00:00 [1]

Morning walk with Ann and Charlie before leaving. Although it was snowing and then raining it was still very pleasant.

Saturday Mar 19, 2005 #

walking 1:30:00 [1]

Morning hike on Hammond Hill with Ann and Charlie Leonard.

walking 1:30:00 [1]

Afternoon hike with Ann. A gorgeous day in the woods!

Friday Mar 18, 2005 #

trail 49:35 [3]

One of my standard hill loops - horse stables, down to Bells Mills bridge across the Wissahickon, up the other side staying high by the covered bridge, back down across the Rex Ave bridge, up the killer hill, and through the woods back to the horse stables.

running 28:26 [3] 3.0 mi (9:29 / mi)

I was getting depressed that I seemed to be running slower than about a month ago so decided that I would run my old 3 miles and push it a bit to see what was up. I didn't look at my watch until I was done (didn't want to get discouraged) and was very pleased that I managed 9:30 pace. I was definitely pushing harder than I have been recently and breathing was a little ragged.

walking warm up/down 36:04 [1]

Jogging on the trails down, a slow half mile after the three faster ones, and walking straight up the hill through the woods home.

Note
(sick) (rest day)

Feeling bad again...although it could be allergies and not illness...my knees were getting sore in any case and I needed to take it easy....

Tuesday Mar 15, 2005 #

walking warm up/down 28:33 [2]

Down to Forbidden Drive and back up to home. Easy jog and walking.

running 31:17 [3] 3.0 mi (10:26 / mi)

Definitely felt yesterday's workout - my legs totally died after two miles. My lower calves were sore as well - the "hard" intervals were on a steep incline with more resisitance and I was on my toes a lot I think. But it was a beautiful day down in the valley and I went early enough that it was cold enough that the mud was still pretty solid instead of slippery.

Monday Mar 14, 2005 #

gym 30:00 [4] 3.75 mi (8:00 / mi)

Intervals on the elliptic trainer at the gym at school. Two minutes easy, two minutes hard. Got that "want to throw up" feeling so know I was working hard; my heart rate was over 170 at times.

gym 20:00 [3]
weight:115lbs

Some warm up and cool down stuff before and after the intervals, some weight machines (arms and abs) and some stretching.

Saturday Mar 12, 2005 #

running 41:50 [2] 4.0 mi (10:28 / mi)

Easy run on Forbidden Drive - just trying to see if I could last four miles.

walking 40:00 [1]

Walked down to Forbidden Drive and back home. Deliberately took it easy and didn't try to do much.

Friday Mar 11, 2005 #

trail 35:00 [3]

Easy (very easy) running on the trails; stayed on this side so less hills than usual.

Thursday Mar 10, 2005 #

treadmill 30:00 [2]

A little more vigorously than yesterday...still not feeling 100% but getting there...

Wednesday Mar 9, 2005 #

treadmill 40:00 [1]
(sick)

Given that just getting out of bed this morning seemed to qualify as strenuous exercise, I was surprised to feel well enough this afternoon to walk to the store (for more tissues and cold tablets!) and then restless enough this evening that I decided to track. Low intensity but did work up a good sweat. If nothing else, it should help me sleep. I hope no one that stayed here this weekend caught whatever I have...

Tuesday Mar 8, 2005 #

Note
(sick) (rest day)

Very sick today; definitely a rest day.

Monday Mar 7, 2005 #

trail 1:20:00 [1]
weight:114lbs (sick)

Hiked in the Wissahickon for 80 minutes, about half the time in the woods and half on trails. My cold held off for the weekend training event but hit full force this morning so I was going to just take today as a rest day. But it was 68F!!! And sunny!!! So really, how could I stay inside all day. Especially since it's supposed to snow by the end of tomorrow. I figure tomorrow is the day for a rest day. Anyway, I went out intending to jog slowly along Forbidden Drive for a while but it was a huge mud slide from all the snow melt and breathing was really hard on my throat which is sore, so I just started hiking on the hillsides where at least it was reasonably dry in most places. An absolutely gorgeous day.

Sunday Mar 6, 2005 #

running 44:41 [3]

Same run as Friday. Throat pretty sore and trail very muddy. But wanted to get out and do something after working the computer this morning.

Saturday Mar 5, 2005 #

orienteering race 1:21:02 [3]

The three sprints at Norristown (23:54,28:37,28:31). The first one was okay, I botched the second one in a couple of places, and the last one felt great (after I took a cold tablet).

Friday Mar 4, 2005 #

running 44:39 [3]

Run in the Wissahickon with Valerie. Slow walk/jog down, 2 miles along the creek at about 10:30, walk home. Am fighting a cold but glad I went out and it was good to have the company. Also nice to learn the route down and home was 3/4 of a mile each way.
