OUSA stuff 1:00:00 [0]

Took a planned rest day and did about an hour of OUSA stuff.

Friday Jun 29, 2018 #

8 AM

hiking 3:46:54 [3] 9.82 mi (23:06 / mi) +288m 21:11 / mi

Four times around the meadow loop, the first two with Sandy. We found a spot - nice shade, no poison ivy, good bit of room - to stretch after each loop.

My heel is quite tender. I guess I need to figure out something so it doesn't get worse.

strength & stretching 40:00 [3]

Class at SJU plus double stairs for 10 minutes beforehand.

OUSA stuff 15:00 [0]

Odds and ends; mostly trying to stay on top of answering emails and uploading documents to our shared drive.
4 PM

hiking 57:32 [3] 2.94 mi (19:34 / mi) +80m 18:03 / mi

Around the meadow with Sandy since I'm not going to pass up the opportunity to have company.

Wednesday Jun 27, 2018 #

11 AM

hiking 1:33:01 [3] 4.01 mi (23:12 / mi) +188m 20:15 / mi

Meander around the Wiss with a weighted pack (8 lbs of weights, with water about 11 lbs). The first uphill seemed hard, the second not so much.

Tuesday Jun 26, 2018 #

strength & stretching 40:00 [3]

30 minute class at SJU followed by 10 minutes of double stairs in one of the stairwells in the gym. I think I will try to do this on a regular basis.

OUSA stuff 1:00:00 [0]

Some routine cleaning up of files and paperwork, answering emails and returning phone calls.

map hiking 10:00 [3]

Norristown SH to finalize courses for July 11. Intended to hike around all the controls and figured it would take about an hour but then I thought let me just drive to that far one and then I kept driving by more and more until all that was left was a handful in some buildings and courtyards that took all of 10 minutes to look at and make some map update notes. One tree gone so that control had to be moved to a nearby feature (plenty to choose from). So 10 minutes of driving and 10 minutes of walking and I was done. Thanks to Greg for designing the courses!

OUSA stuff 2:00:00 [0]

Some routine stuff but also some new stuff like setting it up so that contributors can get matching donations for employers.

Sunday Jun 24, 2018 #

OUSA stuff 15:00 [0]

Just a few odds and ends to start the week with a clear desk.
11 AM

hiking 2:55:13 [3] 6.02 mi (29:06 / mi) +614m 22:06 / mi

Hill repeats. Added one more to get to 6 and put a 5lb weight in my pack.

Saturday Jun 23, 2018 #

OUSA stuff 30:00 [0]

Odds and ends catching up on some membership stuff.
10 AM

hiking 3:00:46 [3] 7.52 mi (24:02 / mi) +215m 22:05 / mi

3 times around the meadow loop at a very mellow pace. Used poles and had some weight in my pack. Very boring to just go around and around but I couldn't summon the mental energy to devise a route I felt like doing. Need to think about maybe driving somewhere to do some long hikes.

Friday Jun 22, 2018 #

OUSA stuff 30:00 [0]

Typical email answering and data upkeep.

Note

Does 6 hours of weeding and spreading wood chips count as anything? If nothing else my hands got a good workout - I'll be able to hold that map and compass like nobody's business. :)

Thursday Jun 21, 2018 #

strength & stretching 30:00 [3]

Class at SJU.

OUSA stuff 1:30:00 [0]

Catching up after a couple days away.

Wednesday Jun 20, 2018 #

7 AM

hiking 1:15:00 [3] 3.05 mi (24:36 / mi) +6m 24:27 / mi

In the sand again. Got out early since it was supposed to rain today but it's a beautiful sunny day. Forgot to turn my watch off when I got home...

Also the men building the house on the next lot start in with their hammering at 7am and the barges with their backup beepers working on building the sand dunes start at 6am so sleeping in isn't much of an option.

strength & stretching 30:00 [3]

My own version of the SJU workout. For the warmup and leg set, it included going up and down a flight of stairs between each exercise. That was work for sure.

Monday Jun 18, 2018 #

4 PM

other 1:00:03 [3] 1.38 mi (43:31 / mi) +2m 43:17 / mi

At my sister Judy's shore house for a couple days. 1/2 hour up and down the stairs with an occasional double stair thrown in followed by 1/2 hour walking in deep sand.

Stopped to see my sister Sue on the way. She's doing so much better - home now, gaining back her strength, going to rehab a couple times a week.

OUSA stuff 1:30:00 [0]

Note

Lots and lots of yard work this week. Not counting it as training but boy is it tiring!

Saturday Jun 16, 2018 #

11 AM

hiking 2:35:35 [3] 5.42 mi (28:42 / mi) +519m 22:07 / mi

Hill repeats.

Friday Jun 15, 2018 #

hiking 1 [3] 5.23 mi ( / mi)

Twice around the meadow loop the first one with Sandy.

My watch doesn't want to talk to my computer.

And this morning it was more talkative.

strength & stretching 30:00 [3]

class at SJU - similar to Tuesday

I was sore enough after Tuesday's class that it was a wake up call that I needed to do more of this.

Note

Can't decide whether to go to the Rocky Mountain O Fest. I'm going to NAOC and so it seems silly to turn around and go for another week right after I get home from one trip, but then again, I am retired so no reason not to. One of my brothers moved to Denver recently so I'm going to see if I can tie in a visit with him.

orienteering 6:00 [3]

Micro sprint at the DVOA sprint series at Ft. Washington courtesy of the Ahlswedes. Fun! I did the 16 micro controls and stopped. The rest of the course looked somewhat interesting with lots of route choice but I had come to the event intending to just work epunch. But the micro part looked like a lot of fun so did that.

OUSA stuff 1:00 [0]

Nothing new came in the mail today so other than reading a few emails and deciding they could be dealt with tomorrow, did nothing.

Tuesday Jun 12, 2018 #

strength & stretching 30:00 [3]

I had to be on campus today to meet with a student who will be doing an independent study (maybe even 2!) with me in the fall so I dropped in to the noontime faculty/staff exercise class. It was pretty good: 8 stations, 45 secs at each, 15 secs between x 3 with a 2 minute break between sets. Decent workout. You picked whatever lb weights you wanted and carried them around with you.

OUSA stuff 30:00 [0]

An easy day. Only two things in the mail.

OUSA stuff 2:00:00 [0]

I've decided to track how much time I spend on OUSA stuff for a week or two.
1 PM

hiking 2:59:03 [3] 8.04 mi (22:16 / mi) +200m 20:40 / mi

Out and back.

My left achilles is a little tender. I need to keep an eye on that.

Sunday Jun 10, 2018 #

Note

Worked the computer for a couple hours at the DVOA relay and picnic.

Saturday Jun 9, 2018 #

hiking 1:00:00 [3]

Picking up some controls from the Rootstock race at Coventry woods.

Thursday Jun 7, 2018 #

10 AM

hiking 2:11:58 [3] 4.87 mi (27:06 / mi) +344m 22:13 / mi

A couple hill repeats.

Tuesday Jun 5, 2018 #

10 AM

hiking 1:50:23 [3] 4.39 mi (25:09 / mi) +209m 21:55 / mi

Over to Chestnut Hill for a little shopping and then back again.

Monday Jun 4, 2018 #

Note

Don't know where the day got to. Too much time on orienteering busy work. My yard needs major attention and I need to prioritize exercising. What happened to all this time I was supposed to have when I retired??

Sunday Jun 3, 2018 #

Note

Don't know what made me check, but I decided to see what Icebug was selling in the way of hiking boots. I really loved the Icebugs I wore up Kilimanjaro but I could not find them again after I wore them out and was looking for a new pair. I have some decent boots that I used last year in Alaska but they aren't quite as comfortable as the Icebugs, especially in the toebox. I've been debating whether to get new boots before the Nepal trip and so on a whim I checked the Icebug website this afternoon. They had what looks like the same boot I had before and in only two sizes - one of them mine!! I ordered them pronto.
10 AM

hiking 1:29:37 [3] 4.57 mi (19:37 / mi) +213m 17:07 / mi

Nice hike with Sandy in the Wissahickon. Really nice temps (63F when I got home) but still sweating a lot. But then again, she keeps me moving at a good clip!

Friday Jun 1, 2018 #

1 PM

hiking 2:46:09 [3] 6.77 mi (24:33 / mi) +230m 22:12 / mi

Hiked the Wissahickon Trail Classic course. At least that's what I'm assuming the pink streamers and arrows were for. I think it's tomorrow - we'll see if I get up early enough to go cheer the runners on as they pass by the meadow loop.
