Note

We should have set the registration deadline as September 15. There are people registering every few minutes and it will probably go on until midnight. I do not believe that they didn't know they were coming two weeks ago.

I got yelled at a few months ago for setting the deadlines so far ahead of the actual event. I think we didn't set it far ahead enough.

I hope all the Registrars for big events coming up give themselves more time than we did.

Over 650 and counting.

Note

TNT Epic Fail. Packed my gear bag - a new one that I wanted to show a few people since we can get them personalized/logo-ized for a good price and they're pretty nice - with my running stuff and threw in a sample map to show NAOC staff and then left my bag in my living room. Guess I have a few things on my mind.

Ugh. That was bad. Brown course at Hickory Run and boy was I sloppy out there. Off on 1 for about a minute of futzing around, then didn't read carefully to #2 and just did some silly running around for about 3 minutes, then started well to #3 but didn't stick to the plan with about 100 meters to go and paid dearly with at least a 5 and maybe 8 minute error. Got it together for 4, 5 was just a small error, 6 was good and then again did the first 90% of 7 just right but then blew up and wasn't willing to just go where I knew I needed to go. So really tanked this course. Need to refocus once NAOC is over and remember how to orienteer!

Hanging controls for various training exercises for Balter and Clem.

Should have taken the initiative and moved one control that was in the middle of some green but I wasn't feeling particularly with it (nasty cold) and just followed directions.

Despite liking the NAOC terrain a lot, Hickory Run is still my favorite park.

Yoga class this morning. Good stretching of the back. So much so that I'm having to really engage my core to sit up, stand up, etc. this afternoon. At first I was worried I had pulled something but now I'm thinking this was a great workout since it's forcing me to continue the workout all day!

Brown course at Myrick. I wasn't planning to go out at all but I was kind of bored - I had gotten there early to help out first time event director Ann (woohoo - go Ann!!) and needed to stay late to take home the epunch kit so decided to run a course at the last minute.

Went the totally wrong direction to #1 (off by 90 degrees) - not sure what was going on in my head. And why did it take me so long to look at my compass? Then didn't bother to use the magnifier to #2 so waded through burrs and prickers instead of taking the nice trail and mowed areas. And then continued to screw up #3, #6, and #7 for about a minute each. Bleah. Finally settled down after that and had a few good controls.

Some yoga in the evening - more than just token stretching, really tried to work it.

Unfortunately, I've picked up a nasty cold. I blame the students that are back on campus. :)
