Note

Did some yard work to loosen up then tried a slow jog. Quad seemed okay but after about 30 seconds I could start to feel it so stopped. Bummer.

I have to decide if just walking the Lowlander is worth the drive up to Harriman.

Note

a couple of hours of weeding and pruning

Note

I do hope my leg is better by the Highlander.
7 AM

strength & stretching 40:00 [3]

Core DVD. I was afraid this might hurt my quad what with all the "knee-in, press" repetitions but this didn't bother it.

6 PM

walking 56:00 [3]

TNT - leg still hurts when I try to run so just walked 2 miles down on the drive plus the down and up. Sandy stuck with me. Bob and Clem ran and Dasha joined us for dinner. Homemade chocolate covered strawberries for dessert! Thanks Sandy.

walk/jog 5:00 [3]

Was debating between just hiking and trying to run the trail loop this morning, but a few steps jogging answered that question. I've managed to injure some muscle or something on my left quad. Walked a little to see if it would loosen up and tried to jog again - no dice. Turned around and even walking uphill was a little painful. Settled for 40 minutes of tackling the jungle that my yard has morphed into with all the run.

Trying to stretch it was also painful. Not sure whether to try ice or heat or just leave it alone.

walking 20:00 [3]

Another walk on the beach; this time in the sun!

strength & stretching 50:00 [3]

Yoga DVD while watching the surf crash. Did more of it than usual.

Note

Decided I wanted to go to WMOC next summer and have booked a small house in Bad Harzburg. It seems so far away timewise but already when I was checking idly I saw that several rental properties were booked for that week so I decided to go ahead and get something.

Saturday Sep 24, 2011 #

walking 40:00 [3]

Walk on the beach in the deep sand.

Thursday Sep 22, 2011 #

Note

Legs still pretty sore from Tuesday night's intervals. We only did 2 miles worth of intervals - so only 1 mile of hard running - but it's the hardest running I've done in over a year.

trail 37:16 [3]

Back to a more normal time. Walked two 3 minute bits in the middle on the hills and from the corner home.

hiking 51:10 [3]

Early evening hike in the drizzle.

Tuesday Sep 20, 2011 #

hiking 38:38 [3]

Resisted the urge to go back to sleep...

Sunday Sep 18, 2011 #

orienteering 5:00 [3]

Checked one control since Bob couldn't find my streamer and I had moved his control. The flag was in the right spot - the streamer was ripped into shreds on the ground a few feet away.

Spent a lot of time on my feet and was mentally fried but nothing that really counts as training.

strength & stretching 40:00 [3]

Core DVD
6 PM

trail 1:02:07 [3]

TNT - Extended Indian loop with Sandy; Jim ran the drive all the way to Lincoln Drive. Felt okay but certainly not strong or zippy.

Monday Sep 12, 2011 #

6 AM

hiking 31:17 [3]

A quick hike down to Forbidden Drive and back.

Sunday Sep 11, 2011 #

orienteering race 52:07 [5] 4.05 km (12:52 / km)

Brown course at HR. No real errors - could probably have found 30 - 40 seconds by holding better lines but that's about it. Could have found many minutes if I had been able to run instead of walk. Very happy though, especially since I wasn't expecting to get out at all. Thanks Vadim and Clem for pushing me to go.

Note

So our first practice at radio controls and uploading results to the web was a success. Next weekend we will try again and attempt to make the upload automatic. Progress!

Saturday Sep 10, 2011 #

Note

Semi live results on the Internet from the HR night o. Woohoo. Also a radio control on the advanced course.

www.naoc2012.org then go to Training

Will try the regular courses tomorrow.

map hiking 1:30:00 [3]

Setting some of the controls for the Sunday courses.

Friday Sep 9, 2011 #

map hiking 2:30:00 [3]

Setting controls for HR training and the night-o. On my feet a good bit longer than that. It felt great to be back in these woods.

6 AM

hiking 36:03 [3]
weight:118lbs

Short early morning hike in light drizzle.
6 PM

strength & stretching 5:00 [3]

5 sets of 20 pushups, 20 situps. These were spread out over half an hour or so with doing various chores between sets. Not sure whether it's more beneficial to do fewer in a short period of time or do more but spread out.

Tuesday Sep 6, 2011 #

strength & stretching 40:00 [3]

Core dvd - no one could make tnt and I couldn't make myself run in the rain and the dark by myself.

Monday Sep 5, 2011 #

hiking 52:43 [3]

Really feeling yesterday's yoga class but the hike helped loosen things up.

The guys that mow my lawn didn't make it last week and it's supposed to rain most of this week so I decided I better mow it myself today. I remember why I decided to hire someone to do it for me!

strength & stretching 5:00 [3]

Just a little bit of stretching plus some pushups (20, 15, 10).

10 AM

strength & stretching 1:15:00 [3]

Made it to yoga class this morning. Great workout - my legs and arms were beat. Good thing I've been doing a bit of yoga on my own since otherwise I'm sure I would have collapsed several times and given up.

Unfortunately, my schedule and the class schedule just don't allow me to get to classes easily.
5 PM

trail 35:44 [3]

Normal short loop. I am at a total loss to explain the time. I walked for 3 minutes at the first big hill as usual but then could not even keep jogging through the meadow. I did a bunch of walk 50 paces, run 100 type things to get through the rest of the hilly part. How could that be faster than what I did last time? And 1:15 faster.

I did hit the first hill a little faster than normal so the only explanation I can find is that when I was running, I was running faster. Perhaps yoga this morning loosened me up and allowed me to move better. But I certainly didn't feel like I was moving any faster.

Very strange.

Saturday Sep 3, 2011 #

trail 2:15:00 [3]

A long hike in the Wissahickon listening to a book to help pass the time. Stopping at the gelato place also helped!

Friday Sep 2, 2011 #

Note
(rest day)

Headache and scratchy throat prompted a rest day. I think it's allergies.

Not very flexible so early in the morning. Would probably help to do this more often than once a week since I don't seem to be getting to the evening classes much anymore.
6 PM

trail 36:59 [3]

Cut the walking parts down a bit.
