strength & stretching 45:00 [3]

Session with Kelly.

Then an hour's worth of yard work since it's 60 (!!) out and beautifully sunny and some zebra grass was shedding and blowing all over my neighbor's yard. All the crocuses are blooming and the daffodils are 6 inches tall already. Hope we don't get another deep freeze.

hiking 59:30 [3] 2.97 mi (20:02 / mi) +84m 18:25 / mi

Meadow loop in the dark with Sandy. Nice night. Glad I got out.

hiking 2:33:11 [3] 6.06 mi (25:17 / mi) +546m 19:45 / mi

Hill workout on the hill by Valley Green. Although hard work, felt reasonable and could have done more but needed to get to work.

Saturday Feb 24, 2018 #

12 PM

hiking 1:44:04 [3] 5.12 mi (20:20 / mi) +153m 18:36 / mi

Around the meadow loop with Sandy since a little rain isn't enough to stop us and then around again because I was already out and wet so why not.

strength & stretching 45:00 [3]

Session with Kelly.

Wednesday Feb 21, 2018 #

9 AM

hiking 1:48:00 [3] 4.59 mi (23:32 / mi) +242m 20:13 / mi

A nice hilly hike on a beautiful morning.

All the crocuses in my yard have bloomed. The daffodils look to be not far behind. It probably means we're going to get another snow storm in the next week or two.

Monday Feb 19, 2018 #

strength & stretching 45:00 [3]

Workout with Kelly. Felt pretty good despite the long layoff although my arms may complain tomorrow.
8 AM

hiking 1:00:58 [3] 3.08 mi (19:48 / mi) +88m 18:10 / mi

Meadow loop with Sandy taking it easy. It felt so springlike - temps were 42-45 but the air just felt warm. My crocuses think so too!

hiking 1:58:45 [3] 5.17 mi (22:58 / mi) +168m 20:52 / mi

A nice slow easy hike not wanting to take a chance of hurting anything. Ankle still a tad tender but pretty good; the hiking boots gave it good support. Used my hiking poles and my knee was fine. Trails were pretty muddy after last night's sloppy snow and this morning's warm temps.

walking 49:22 [3] 2.38 mi (20:45 / mi) +82m 18:45 / mi

Walk around the neighborhood with Sandy. She's still recovering from what was likely the flu and I just wanted an easy walk to test out my ankle and knee so sticking to hard even surfaces was a good choice. Ankle and knee both still a little tender but the walk didn't bother them. Whew!

hiking 30:54 [3] 1.34 mi (23:03 / mi) +39m 21:09 / mi

F***, F***, F***. Traipsing merrily along around the meadow loop not really paying attention and stepped on a rock that moved and down I went wrenching my knee and rolling my ankle. I lay on the ground for probably about a minute before the pain subsided enough to get up and hobble on home. Iced both and wrapped the ankle and took some vitamin I. We'll see what the damage is tomorrow but it's all pretty stiff and sore tonight.

1 PM

hiking 1:24:25 [3] 3.55 mi (23:47 / mi) +103m 21:49 / mi

Hill repeats on A-hill. Figured I should do 4 since it's about twice as long as the hill where Sandy and I did 8 the other day. But I was definitely slower since I wasn't pushing it and was listening to an audiobook. But it was beautiful out. And the trails were in good shape. So a good outing.

strength & stretching 45:00 [3]

Good session with Kelly. The arch in my right foot was sore for the first 15-20 minutes but then I guess it warmed up and was fine. I really hope this is not the start of foot issues.

walk/jog 59:01 [3] 3.27 mi (18:03 / mi) +93m 16:35 / mi

2 lamppost jog, 1 walk for a mile. Slowly building up.

hiking 2:59:27 [3] 6.79 mi (26:26 / mi) +263m 23:36 / mi

A pokey stroll on the trails of the Wissahickon. My side of the creek is mostly muddy but there was a good bit of treacherous ice on the far side. Glad I had my hiking poles as my boots had no traction whatsoever.

School was closed today for the parade - I was stunned when they announced that classes were cancelled. It was nice to have today off but I'll pay for it next week with two problem sets to grade.

I meant to take Tuesday off but not yesterday. Kelly had to cancel and I didn't have the willpower to do anything on my own.

hiking 1:00:43 [3] 2.87 mi (21:09 / mi) +119m 18:44 / mi

Hill repeats with Sandy. Decided on 8 and then decided to alternate leading. Amazing how that made it seem like so much less since I was only "responsible" for 4. Consistent pace of 2:07-2:10 for the first 6 then 2:01 and 1:56 (Sandy nailed the last in 1:51 but I didn't have that much left). Good workout. Much faster than 2 weeks ago.

8 AM

hiking 1:38:47 [3] 4.76 mi (20:45 / mi) +220m 18:09 / mi

Long hike with Sandy.

About 15 minutes faster with Sandy than last time on my own.

Saturday Feb 3, 2018 #

2 PM

cardio 53:01 [3] 0.65 mi (1:21:34 / mi) +3m 1:20:16 / mi

30 minutes of stairs (10 wu, 15 doubles, 5 cd)
followed by a bunch of strength (yay - 40 pushups again with much less rest between sets) and then a bit of stretching including some very painful foam rolling of quads

walk/jog 55:20 [3] 3.19 mi (17:21 / mi) +102m 15:47 / mi

Jogging on the drive with Sandy; our version of a fartlek workout!

Thursday Feb 1, 2018 #

hiking 55:04 [3] 2.89 mi (19:03 / mi) +81m 17:31 / mi

Around the meadow loop with Sandy, in the dark with headlamps after the first 10-15 minutes. But we're not wusses anymore so it didn't deter us! :)

Although we intended to do some jogging, once it was sort of dark it felt a bit scary as the footing wasn't that great. Maybe we'll head down to the drive in the future if it's dark and we feel like jogging.
