trail 51:41 intensity: (49 @1) + (3:35 @2) + (9:11 @3) + (23:26 @4) + (14:40 @5) 2.86 mi (18:06 / mi) +100m 16:19 / mi
ahr:135 max:159 weight:120.6lbs

Tried to jog in places where the footing wasn't too bad which wasn't that many but then again I'm so not used to running that it was probably a good balance.

Core DVD

Very, very tight in the hips. The hiking in the ice and slush the last couple of outings took it's toll I guess.

ahr:115 max:138 weight:121.2lbs

Hike with Sandy on the very icy trails. Studded shoes worked okay as long as you stayed on the sides where there was still a crust of snow and not in the middle of the trail where there were only frozen footprints.

ahr:114 max:137 weight:121.8lbs

That was hard work! The trails are a slush fest and even with my studded shoes I was slipping a lot.

There is so much water with no where to go - it will be solid ice after tonight's low temperatures for sure.

10 repeats to warm up then 4 x (10 jogging up, 10 double stairs) then 10 to warm down. So a nice even 100 times up and down the stairs.

stairs 19:59 [3] 0.19 mi (1:45:47 / mi) +2m 1:42:25 / mi
weight:124lbs

I decided last night that I had been a couch potato long enough and it was time to get back to the plan. So, up and down the stairs first thing this morning.

Then out to shovel the snow.

Then realized I should have gone snowshoeing.
5 PM

snowhoe 1:28:40 intensity: (5:35 @1) + (25:27 @2) + (51:25 @3) + (6:13 @4) 3.33 mi (26:39 / mi) +117m 24:01 / mi
ahr:114 max:138

So asked Sandy if she was up for a snowshoe later in the day and she said yes. She was delayed hence my trekking up and down the street for a bit at the start. The trails are still sheets of ice, now just with powdery snow on them. The snowshoes were okay but we each took a good fall so not foolproof.

hiking 7:00 [3]

Got all bundled up and went out for a hike only to find the trail a sheet of ice. I'm still sore from the spill I took Saturday so I turned around and went home.

Vetting the Trail-O course at Tyler. We were out for about 3 hours. It was snowing lightly for part of the time and was very pretty. It was cold for the whole time but I was bundled up enough that it wasn't too bad. I was also wearing my glasses for distance and my reading glasses and trying to switch between them and wipe the snow off the map was all very entertaining.

Several slick spots and I went down hard once when I wasn't paying attention.

Yoga/Pilates 1:00:00 [1]
weight:122.6lbs

Class. Really tight in the hips this morning so yoga was perfect.

The low weight is probably just a blip and due to not drinking nearly as much water as usual yesterday.
5 PM

stairs 31:09 [3] 0.27 mi (1:54:27 / mi) +1m 1:53:10 / mi

I wanted a workout but I did not want to do it outside so I hit the stairs.

10 regular repeats to warm-up then 3 x (10 repeats trying to jog up, 10 repeats double stairs) and then 10 regular to cool down.

strength & stretching 10:00 [3]

lots of abs and some arms

Busy day at work, but one major school project is now finished. Still several to go, but this one was weighing on me. Too exhausted to do more than stretch a bit while relaxing.

ahr:124 max:158 weight:123.6lbs

Early TNT while it was still light since it was just me and Sandy again.

Intervals of jog for 1:45 walk for 1:00. This time we just did the 10 we intended. The drive was really icy in spots. And it's just supposed to get colder for the next few days so probably won't thaw for a while.

ahr:115 max:141

Long hike with Sandy in the Wissahickon. Many of the trails are still very icy although the meadow trails were mostly mud. Her Garmin says closer to 6 miles.

trail 43:57 intensity: (29 @1) + (2:40 @2) + (3:54 @3) + (14:15 @4) + (22:39 @5) 2.71 mi (16:13 / mi) +90m 14:42 / mi
ahr:141 max:159 weight:125lbs

I decided to walk over to the trailhead and back from the trailhead and not jog on the road. Besides being better for my knee, it gives me a little chance to warm up and cool down. I kind of liked this and will most likely stick to it.

Jogged the whole loop, going as slowly as I needed to in order not to walk. That was the plan and I stuck to the plan. That is my mantra for the month.

Unfortunately, I did not stick to the plan in regards to eating and indulged a bit last night while attending a school function. Unsurprisingly it showed on the scale this morning. Three light days of exercising in a row probably didn't help either. But, a mental break was not a bad thing in the long run most likely.

Class. Small again (3). Didn't do quite as much core work as Wednesday but still a good class. Perhaps I'll be inspired to do a bit of core this evening.

Class. He did some really good core work today.

The last several classes I've been to have been 4-6 people. Tonight was 17! I'm glad I know his routines since I was in the back and couldn't see.

ahr:123 max:154 weight:124lbs

TNT - early edition with Sandy before it got dark. Which was a good thing because most trails and most of the drive was a sheet of ice and trying to see where the good footing was would have been much, much hard with a headlamp.

The plan was to do intervals, 10 repeats of jog for 1:30 and walk for 1:00. I miscounted though and we didn't turn around until after 6. When we did what turned out to be #11 I kept waiting for the watch to beep but it didn't and I finally checked at about 2:00. Then we weren't quite back to the trail head so we did one more just for kicks. They definitely felt easier as we did more.

We then checked out a huge tree that had fallen across the drive. It must have fallen yesterday in the crazy wind we had.

Met two women on horses on the trail back up to the meadow. After chatting about the trail conditions they decided to walk their horses in the woods instead of trying to go down the trail.

Glad I stuck to the plan tonight - I was actually looking forward to the workout and enjoyed it. It's nothing spectacular but I wasn't sure I was ever going to do any running so this is just fine.
