Run 50:00 [3] 7.1 km (7:03 / km)
shoes: Roclite 295

Cable bay walkway run.
Up the loop track and back down the airstrip onto the loop track. Cracker day and very quiet. Saw one group of people and a couple of hundred sheep.
Nearly kept running all the way up.

Run 52:00 [3] 7.8 km (6:40 / km)
shoes: Roclite 295

Bayview run in Nelson. Normal along to atenna and back. Cracker day. Didn't feel brillant, had a bit of a dodgy stomach all day.

Good chat with the farmer on the way back, who was creating firebreaks.
Nice to get some training in this week, first time I've travelled long-haul econ for a while without getting sick.

Mountain Bike 1:28:30 [3] 23.3 km (3:48 / km)

From Jordan's on his Trance, along lake side on wingletrack towards bannockburn. One lap of the tailings track at bannockburn. Very nice and very scenic. Scared the daylights out of a german girl when I came down round a blind corner (allbeit slowly).
On the way back got asked by a dog owner to "just give it a kick" which was quite flattering, as the little ankle biter was a bit annoyying. Somewhat frustratingly I had SPDs on, so it wasn't that easy, and I elected for biking off.

Good ride, good work out, as his bike is a tad small for me. Another cracker of a day.

Run 1:33:00 [3] 15.4 km (6:02 / km)
shoes: Roclite 295

From Cromwell up the side of Lake Dunstan to the 45th parrallel. This was a bit further than I thought~7.5k. Up the 45th parrallel rotary club hill track to a little plateau, along to bag a trig and down spur back to lakeside track. A map geeks dream run (Craney).

Nice in the hot Otago sun, school children seemed to be doing limited work, one lot out sailing, enough canoeing, and saw some riding their bikes with the local cop on the way back. That is the life.

Quite a flat run, but leg muscles still hurt. realtivily cruisy, started struggling at about 14 k.

Note

Queenstown - Good place for WOC?

I don't think NZ could host a WOC at the moment. But Orienteering is going from stregnth to strength in NZ so one day it might.
Hypothetically I think Queenstown could host a pretty good WOC.
Big enough to have all the facilities - airport/hotels that you need, small enough for O to take over for a week.
areas could be challenging, but I think there would be some good areas close to town. Central queenstown for sprint, you could have something in Queenstown hill, finishing down through the pines, which are runnable in corridors now. There are existing areas at Paradise, Bannockburn, and many more. WOCs oftern don't have awesome terrain, but there is some good stuff round queenstown, Sven's native bush area at the bottom of the routeburn - access issues, but looks awesome. I've never been up to Pisa Range, but maybe that has potential. Some of the other ski centres could be used as well maybe.

A few days there got me thinking, that maybe it's the most suitable place in NZ. Sure not many orienteers live there, but I don't think that's a showstopper. Another key feature, is the supporting mutli day would be eaten up by Europeons - The Southern Alps 6 days - perfect.

Note

Indoor climbing in Wanaka.

Some nice routes, though generally not that high, jordan doing the belaying, somewhat opposite to Stu, so some decent falls.
