Bordon heath
Harvester, Leg 3 - the long night.

Started off in a reasonble postion thanks to Ifor and Richard. Went down the road to one, due to ifor's tip. Then mucked it up right at the end a bit - reentrant my ass. Got, 3 alright, bit hestiant on 4, and try to leave via a route through a high fence, though high fences are crossable, when the surround a miltary base, I kindof guessed this one wouldn't be, so quickly turned back, and went through the skid ground to #5, 6,7,8 fine. Then enter the south eastern area. My plan was to run down the chute between the tress until it opened up, but it never really opened up. Then i saw a big leyland truck and ran to the depression with it, but alas I had made a parralel error and was too the NW, and Dave peel caught me and punched. Went tracks to west to 10, technical. 11 ended up a a bit left, then saw dave punch it, so went into to get it, as he seemed to be in the right place. Only to come out, to see him going in for another crack!, 12 tricky, to find all the correct gaps. Then 13 i was going to go in off the tower. Got to the tower, but the track entrys were real vague. Broke my golden rule and went in without strictly knowing what track i was on. Failed to find it, got turned and spat out. Had a another crack attacking from close to tower, working out what track i was on, but it was a different one. Then thought screw this, I'll head to the lake. Never found the lake, ended up on the north side, back to tower, took a track above it this time, correct track, got the control - 8 mins later. Was pissed off, missed the road crossing on the way out.

Went all the way to the top of 16, past 2. 17 bit tricky. 18, plan to go out to ride in west. Got there eventually, and ataccked control fine. 19, slow on paths after ride. 21, missed track junction to east, went west. Knocked off headlamp halfway to 22, so blinded myself, always primed for a mistake. found the houses, seemed to be thickets everywhere, eventually found the thicket with control. Took the pit conservativlly and spiked it. Track to 25. And finish.

running was average, felt quite slow early on, but had a gel and perked up.

Technically a bit shite. Not a good race ~ 14 mins mistakes. Really enjoyed it though, superb area for night orienteering - harder than it looks. SW block was the best, but I think maybe the map not quite as sharp, would need to go out in the day to be sure.

Fairly good effort by team to get 5th, A year with harvestor wideopen - unfortuante not to put out our best team.

Note

Harvestor tonight, leg three for a bristol team missing some of it's big guns.

Fell well rested but not 100%

Been unable to shake knee problem - should probably go see the doc. Plus still have a cough from the most prolonged cold in the world. Looking forward to the map, after Bown's run from earlier in the year in the southern nights.
I'm unsure what time of day it is at the mo, as have been sleeping/awake at random times, so that shall continue - not looking forward to monday.
