Orienteering 39:49 [4] 6.3 km (6:19 / km) +235m 5:20 / km
shoes: Jalas Olway

British relays, Helsington Barrows, Kendal
Duncan, me, Adam

Duncan bought us back in a good pos, just under 5 mins down in about 19th. I then proceded to run up a big hill to number 1, then went round it Trailing 2 SHOUC runners to where i thought my #2 should be. Unfortuantly it wasn't my number 2, thinking iwas too low down and too close to vegetation i then went up until i found another feature (pond) with another control, then realised i was miles away by the depression 2 to the south, so went back past where i was orginally to find it a bit lower down. doo. 1.45 mins.

Then settled down (though slightly thrown by tapes on 3-4). I think i had understimated the terrain. Slight miss on 5 (20 s) but i was under control. I had been feeling pretty lethargic the whole race, but partcuarly on the uphill slogs from 11 through to 16. Paying the price for my lack of fitness and yesterday. Then did the easy ones in the finish field.

So not a good race, with my big mistake. arggh. But it didn't really matter, as Duncan had decieded not to punch all the controls he was supposed to in the field at the end :-)

Huge gaffling, winner on my leg was Murray 29.42

Generally pleased with how weekend went, good training, my injury has basically gone. Just need to build on this now before Jukola.

Event: BOC 2012

Orienteering 2:04:24 [3] 15.6 km (7:58 / km) +690m 6:32 / km
shoes: Jalas Olway

British Long chmps - Dalegarth, western lakes.

A british champs on a big piece of moorland. Started OK, lost a bit of time to 5, as went thourhg a haggy marsh. Then felt really dead through 6 to 18 before perking up a bit on the downhill. Went a bit right on 21, and inverted contours on 23 (30 s). Went right on 25, mainly as i wanted a drink ASAP, thoguh i think right was maybe 30 s slower. Maybe lost a little bit of time on 31, climbing up above the cliff prior to it.
Had a chilli a couple of hours beffore I started and regretted it for the first hour, and loved it for the second. Never felt so well nourished in a long race before. Not my kind of terrain (really easy) so happy with where I placed. Probably 2 mins of mistakes all up in small mises. The biggest postive was that my knee held up :-)

Run 59:00 [3] 10.0 km (5:54 / km)
shoes: Walsh PB trail

Blaise lunchtime, went with the AR guys, it seems a bit more hardcore than it used to be, which is good in a way. But took it easy before the british. Real muddy down the western side of the creek in blaise, up the fence/wall path and back through all the little woods. Cut it short and back through west gate. Felt knee a bit.

Orienteering 38:57 [3] 7.9 km (4:56 / km)
shoes: Ascis Gel cumulus 11

Thought I'd go find out what this "nav racing" business is all about.
Wrington.
The organiser, had produced a new map. I'm sure that he'd put a lot of thought into the map, and spent many days on OCAD drawing it, but it didn't say in the details you needed a microscope with you. Just becuase the alley is 500 mm wide on the ground doesn't mean it should be 0.1 mm on the map..... He must have been to the same mapping school as the chief organiser. It's great to have new maps, but even better when they're right first time, had he not tried using it?
It says mapped to issom, but obviously not, as minimum impassable vegetation is 0.4 mm, which is also the minmum gap......
Rant over.

Generally Ok run, didn't push it that much, but can't run anyway at the mo. Pretty clean, a few stops to look at the map. Only conumdrum was @ 25, as to which side it was on. Stopped to check descriptions, which was no help as there wasn't a fence corner pointing to the south mapped....
So of course went to the wrong side.
Felt knee a bit

Good training run round somewhere a bit different.

Road Bike 45:00 [1]

Took at easy, cycling seems worse for my knee than running!
