Orienteering 1:15:45 [4] 11.0 km (6:53 / km) +300m 6:04 / km
shoes: Jalas Olway

West Woods Black

Feeling quite tired and stiff before i went out. Had hargreaves just behind me again. Bit of a miss on one, whilst i got used to this quintessentially english area. Then James caught me up at 6, where i was mucking around in trimmings. Managed to catch up him up a bit on the way to 11, as he bananaed it, but by 13 he was out of site. really slow to 15, and only small misses to the finish. Just slow and faituged.

Good training run/compass exercise. Proper english english orienteering, the highlight being the large boulders (isom 3x3m?) they'd mapped, which someone stronger than me/craney could've relocated. The earth walls required some degree of drug induced visulisation.

Even though my times have been slow this wkd, I'm pleased with where i'm at, given my cirumstances. Hopefully build on this through feb.

Intrestingly ran only 400 m longer than the straight line distance.

Intresting field, ranking points could be potluck

FoD NGOC

Good to get out on this underused FoD area. Hit one #1 alright, but then got stuck in grot and pulled low too number 2. As i thought a bunch of people (incl Hanne who was camped out in the area) had punched it who hadn't. On the way to three. Got caught by J Hargreaves, who i thought had started before me, but infact had taken a 1k detour to the start so had infact caught me. number 3, found a fairly similarly looking reentrant too low down. Number 6, went straightish which was alright, but probably had a bit too much terrain running compared to high or low. Number 7, was following james, when he shot off at 90degs, i kept on going to find the control. Had a blond moment to number 8, when i thought it was before the road. Then just had no energy to finish.

So generally a bit rough technically, and felt i had nothing in me. Enjoyed it all the same. Coming of age run from Adam.

WNL Silk wood.

My second night event recently, and my second time running at westonbirt. Much better in the night than day. Had some preplanning time that i'm not a big fan of so ended up doing the same first side loop as Bown.
19,1,9,25,11,7,16,21,13,5,23,3,17 - 27.49 total.
This all went well with no major time loss. I'd slowed down a bit later on too plan the end and second half, when The dr caught me. Much to his discontent I then escaped briefly, due to a better exit line. Then at 17, I'd planned what to do. After going to 18 I wanted to go to 6, I proceeded to hit a track and run down it, I knew things wern't quite right, but foolishly kept on going. It took me an age to relocate and I'd gone down the track to the south. ~ 3mins lost. Then at 24, I came in pretty sure of where i was, though there was no black cross. I couldn't find it and the forest was thick. I remeber having issues there during the day, so sacked it off. On the way out confirmed via track end i was pretty much in the right place. Then at 22, knew i was short of time, but had had the foot down for a while so went for them all anyway. Slight issues on 16 ~30s as i couldn't see the clearing, and overshoot past the trees and turned back too it. Then home to be 3 mins late.

18-6-10-20-4-24-2-22-26-16-14-12-8

So anyway another average performance. Was running better then this morning. Technically ok bar 6, enjoyed the vaguness at night. Total 479, Bown cleared them all with time to spare. Maybe my map change wasn't optimum as my distance run was significantly longer than Ifor's. Good training.
