Tio mila - open course controls as a warm up, nice to get back into scandi terraine with accurate mapping.

Orienteering race 1:59:00 [4] 13.0 km (9:09 / km)
shoes: Jalas Olway

Jukola leg 2 - Night

Alex had bought us in 240th 22mins behind the leaders, He then proceeded to tell me our map had gone, which i didn't really believe, and sure enough he found it. So i set off a bit isolated but pushed to catch a few people by the field. Then I saw a group going for the track i wanted so i pused quite hard to catch them. then sat in theat bunch for a little bit, but deciede they were giong quite slow so led, they all followed me to #1 where i was a little right and missed annoyingly (1 min). Nailed number 2, but then missed 3 slightly (30s) Almost skipped #4 but came across it. Number 6 was the firstreally technical. Was in a b ig group, and knew where we were going across the road, then I thought we were on track for the yellow marsh, but never saw it, then we slowed down, split up, and luckily i followed a guy to my control. Very lucky, and very poor orienteering on my part. Then I naved the next couple fine, with a couple of people around. At this point (#9) I was 140th on my leg (50 mins), after the early wobbles, and being pretty lucky at one point. Now with some quite quick people, and we were flying across to #10, which i'd identified as being hard, but i had no idea where we were, and then ended up trying to relocate, was on the wrong ridge, trying to make things fit, then had to go to a gully, but it was the wrong one. Just had the plan to run to the big field, and found the control on the way, so a mare and it cost me 8 mins. I'd dropped to 220th on my leg

So now i'm all alone in the dark, take it pretty cautiously through the next 2, on the way to 13 took track to the right, not feeling great, had to stop for a pee. Then thought i'd lost my compass and turned back to look for it, but it was just stuck in my tights! Dropped to 240th around here.
Before finally finishing with 219th.

+ 39.13 on leg, pulled us up 22 places.

So overall a bit below par, no major major disatours, but would've perferred not to muckup soo much. Made about 14 mins of mistakes.

Think i need more swedish terraine, in the dark with relay training :-)

Overall our team finished 180th - the highest placed team with a 9th leg runner in the mass start. Something to improve on next year.

PS why are the results so scrwed, and they keep changing them!

Orienteering 33:00 [3]
shoes: Ascis Gel cumulus 11

UWE sprint race

Always fun to run on a new area (to me). Got a bit confused that the underpasses were actually inside corridors on the way to 2, and chosse to go round. No major problems, got all the controls, and in the correct order. Fun area with well planned courses, good sprint training!
Took it pretty easy physcially, recovering from JK and tio on sat night.

Run 15:00 [2]

Warm up and down, felt pretty tired

Note
(rest day)

Rest, goto rest for tio! yay.
So JK, generally happy, things could've gone better some days, but then when i look back at were I was in Jan, quite pleased. Bodes well for the nexts months races, If i can sharpen the pencil a bit both technically and physically.

Orienteering 32:55 [3] 5.0 km (6:35 / km)
shoes: Jalas Olway

JK relays, Tyrella
Bok 2nd team, Duncan, me & huw stradling

Duncan brought us back in a good 13th, with gaps around, so realtivly isolated with neil in front of me. Had learnt a few tips from sat, and ran conservativly to number 1. missed 3 as saw Matt F punch a control, but it wasn't mine, dop. Then lost time on 9 by exiting the field wrong, meant to go right but got put of by tapes, and ended up bashing through stuff. then ballsed up 12, by trying to take a smart route and getting stuck behind a fence. So maybe 1.5 mins of mistakes all up. So a bit rough, not quite feeling in the groove, but happy with run, and speed. Was pretty much like a middle race, as was just by myself through most of it. Tom ryan went through me at 5, but he was going much quicker.

Leg gaffle winner hector haines 26.42 me + 6.13
overall i was 11th on leg and pulled us up two to 11th. Huw bought us home in 12th. quite pleased with that.4th second team behind, EUOC, SHOUC and FVO
