Orienteering 2:48:00 [3] 17.0 km (9:53 / km)
shoes: Jalas Olway

Tiomila 2010, 3rd leg, LOK 3rd team.

Didn't have the best starting postion, as the the first guy took a while then the second guy lost huge amounts of time in the final section of his course, so I didn't get going to after 1.30 am and was really cold as I had been in change over over 30 mins by that point. Anyway knocked off the first 2 alright, then missed a track on the way to the 3rd (masssive leg), it was becoming quite difficult and i was passing the odd person, but then not many people around. Then going into the real technical stuff, I probably took a stupid route choice, I waited (20s) for a couple of people to catch me up so it was safer, turned out to be this girl, and another bloke on a bungy, that i had passed earlier. so we did this control (control 7), the girls (Alva from lithe vilse) nav was pretty good. and then just as we were leaving it my headlamp went. I'm not sure why, it wasn't hot. Anyway i played with it for quite a while, while jogging on my small reserve light.

So i just had to follow this girl, cuase the light wasn't good enoug to do much. And she got progressivly slower, and slower, and i got cold, and she just ran straight when tracks were obviously quicker. Eventually we got to the spectator (control 20) and luckily my clubmates (ptr, erik et al) were there, so after a very polite request, I managed to get a new headlamp. I then got agressive on the last loop, but made one mistake in a vague bit (1.5 mins on 27). It was almost light when I finished. So I enjoyed the last 1/4 and to some extent the first 1/4 but not most of it!

I'm a bit motivated to go back and have another crack. I really enjoyed it physically.
Any way on the upside, I still beat the LOK 2nd team runner, and hartley!!

Getting excited about tio now. Looking forward to running long night, just hope i don't go out too far down (or up). And it all goes well and i don't get really lost in a technical bit of forest and the headlamp dies.

Orienteering 1:15:00 [3]
shoes: Jalas Olway

Some relay style training before tio/british. Not particualer happy with how I was orienteering, but defintly better for the training. Missed the 1st one twice, and got out naved by tim on occassions (this has to be balenced by me finding him stood in a field > 150 m from the control) Feeling Ok at the moment, which is better than before tio last year. So looking fwd to it!
