Swiss generally thoughts
* well organised, few countries in the world could pull off something as complex so smoothly, probably only a sleect few northern europe ones, So OK there was so problems like the transport stopping early on day 2, but they got the basics right. Some whinging on forums but I have no doubt they pulled this off better than Britain, america, NZ, france, monglia etc ever ever could.
* terraine was pretty decent, although nothing extradionary, some very cool locations
* why does it, and the next one, clash with the scottish!?
* Easyjet was excellent when they cancelled the flight home (slightly ironically due to a technical fault with the plane - making me late for work...) 4 star Hilton, 2 big meals, tres bien.
* everyone spoke german (or more like swiss german) - level of locals english significantly worse than say Sweden,
* I could live in switzerland

Orienteering race 56:09 [4] 3.3 km (17:01 / km)
shoes: VJ Intergrator

Day 6 Gibel again,
Not particuarly enthoused about running on same area again, although a good effort by the organisers to change at last minute, (some people still had a whinge about anything possible wingeable). But chris was mega enthusatic, although i would've perferred a cancellation and a day in the hills.

So went out and was feeling real good and had climbed to 9th at control 5, before completly stuffing 6, and having to relocate on track and i was in the right place all along, so don't quite know how i missed it, seemed to be more going on in there. Then was pissed off and missed on a few others.
Strapped right ankle for first time in my life - seemed effective, and gave myself a bit of a wax as a bonus.

Tim - who tore his leg open, require stiches still managed to equal my finish split, but hey i'll let him have it as I bet him everyday so thanks for the £10, ching, ching.

Orienteering race 50:37 [4] 3.3 km (15:20 / km) +220m 11:30 / km

Day 5 Gibel - middle
This was an intresting area, with karst covered in thick forest, so a bit of a death trap, almost borke my leg on way to 1 (30 s). Again didn't feel fast at all.
Lost 1 min at 9, 30s 11 But just never really got going. Went over on right ankle twice.
Probably an area that would suite me, although it wasn't particuarly enjoyable.

Day 4 (was supposed to be 6, changed due to rain)
Chinzig Seenalp
Cool downhill O (with a crazy climb at start) started at 1950 m finished at 1200 m with 260 climb = 1010 m descent.

Just felt real slow today, don't know why. Small problems on 1, then slow through the first ones. Lost 1.5 min on 15, and 20 s on 16. Then near the end of the race on 22, completly bottled it, dehydrated, and schoolboy error - complete lack of concentration, lost 3 mins. Not as bad as paddys 9 mins on 21 which was even easier!, I must've been pissed off for the next one cause i got the quickest split.

Overall only error really mad about was 21, and just slow.

Swiss Day 3
Glattalp
This was really cool with the whole race between 2100 to 1850 m, big climb to start & finish.
Easy farmland to start, felt slow, and the splits show it being 43rd at the 4th at the end of the farmland. Then into cool rock, hestiant on 5, then was in cicrle on 6 but stopped a fraction to early due to the karst being slow, 1 min. Then on 7 took a shite route (straight) failed to work out intially where I was and lost about 3.5 mins (but still climbed placing - this was a tough leg). Ran past 12 30s and went too high and left 13, So all up probably 5 min lost, but OK apart from 7 which i was kicking myself for.

Day 2 Swiss
Schwialppass
Quite heavy rain today, farmland orienteering with a bit of complex rock. Only 1 medium mistake on 8, where i climbed high (in cloud) by accident and got a bit lost, 2 mins. Kinda of similar to NZ, my first time on karst outside of takaka hill maps!

And then they voided the course as 7 had been stolen and affected a few runners. While it's dissapointing to have a course voided, I don't belive in removing leg splits, so i'm not really sure what other options they had. Chris was annoyed to miss out on a prize in HE!
