Kayaking 40:00 [3]

Paddle from boatramp across to boulder bank , cruised down the bank, being pushed by wind and tide, just got back across mudbank before the tide went out too much. Nice day, a bit choppy.

Nelson Summer series 1, Fairfield

Did the long course, which was 2 loops (and map marking x2 so k rate is less). Had a few problems in the girls college, even though I mapped this whole map about 8 years ago.
Really good course setting, which made you think which way to get around buildings. Bar the dodgy one up the fire exit stairs, which wasn't quite marked in the same place. Had a couple of small issues and probable non optimum route choices in the college part.

Bet Nathan by about 1 min, although If i knew he was there, I probably would've gone quicker to ensure I won. Legs a bit tired, but otherwise felt good.

Very cool to see a map I used still saying that I mapped and drew it. And a very busy sucessful event, with lots of people there (for Nelson). It was cool to see the series still been run in much the same way I instigated it 8 years ago, and even better the entry price hasn't gone up in all that time - still 5 bucks.

Note

Picked up a hitchhiker going through lewis today just past the boyle river end of st James. So took him up to other end. About halfway there and he says "actually i've just been down south and was doing the ocenia orienteering events". How random (for a country with few orienteers) turns out it was Don Paterson from Taranaki, I've heard his name before but didn't know him, I think his kids were glad he got a ride so quick.
