Orienteering race 1:28:33 [3] ***** 7.27 km (12:11 / km)
shoes: Jalas O shoes

Tjällmoträffen

On the way out ion the car the terraine got described as nice. So i started and got lost on the way to 1, and 2, and 3. Iäd even tried slowing down by 3. This was very techinical and maybe the first time ever, i could out run my navigation (i was thinking of you Tim). The 1:15 scale didnät help either. Anyway a good exercise in relocation but if the 10 mins iäd lost on 1 &2 hadnät destroyed my time, the 15 i lost on 3 did.
But i learnt heaps and from 4 to the finish only made smallish mistakes. Needed to do a map walk first i think. Confidence boasted too much by thursday night.

Anyway very intresting forest, and i canät wait to get out again and hopefully have a more suceesful crack.

I know now to be more careful next time terraine gets described by swedes as "nice"

Orienteering race 43:31 [4] 5.2 km (8:22 / km)
shoes: Jalas O shoes

My first O race in sweden. Swedish terraine, pitch black. A little bit apprenshive given my complete lack of orienteering or running whislt in toulouse for the last 3 months. The fact i was racing against swedes in sweden in the dark. So did the medium coures, mass start. On some map somewhere outside linköping.

Just held on with the first gorup to 1, although realise quite quickly they went a rubbish way, on a less direct but bigger track. But still in the front gorup through 1 and 2, not really map reading. Got dropped going up the hill to 3, then was on the wrong spur, which took me some time to work out, and the guy i was with (who had caught me up) was of no use. Then mucked up 4 by stopping too early. Then a second group reformed, but i read the map the rest of the way. Managed to get to the front of this around control 9. But couldnät quite get past one guy. who finished 2 secs ahead. I think the other guy just ahead (3 secs) must've been ahead throughout, and wecaught him at the fnish. 2 min 15 sec down on the winner in 7th. Not bad. After 4 felt ok technically, and my running endurance felt good, although lacked speed and going up the small hills was bad. So quite pleased.
They seem to map more vegetation as white when in NZ/UK would be light green, but i had heard that and will get used to it. Also they seem better at running cleaner lines than me. Also the facilliteis are awesome, club huts changing sheds etc.. almost like a proper sport. might take me a while to get used to the showers though.

Right knee which had been giving me some problems was fine. I think itäs just cycling that mucks it up.
I think i will enjoy sweden, hopefully get a run in 25 manna
