St Jaume et le Plo de Maurou - Lezignan-Corbieres
My first event in france and for a while. Terraine was rocky forest with some contour detail and many tracks. Overall quite good but not too technical.
Slowish through first 2 then small mistake at 3. Bad route choice to 6, realised aobut half way that it wasn't optimum but didn't relise it cost me 2 mins. A bit slow through the next ones. Fastest split to 14, which is suprising considering i lost 10 secs going into it. I think nearly every one else tried to go straight, rather than the track. Hesitant at 16. Small misses on detail ones at 20 & 21. Thought i'd just be able to hit them, so wasn't really reading map, going to fast. Lesson to be learnt. Rest was sweet, got speed up by a dog chasing me to 24.
Good to get out and do some O, felt my running, and specifcially terraine running was poor. It was hot - 30 deg, but i didn't think this had too much of an effect. O shoes would've knocked off 1 - 2 mins. Terraine not to disimilar to parts of NZ (eg a much much simplier Naseby) so I didn't struglle to pick this up. Although not used to running past grapes which was cool.
4th overall, they give out mint prizes (bottle of wines t-shirts etc) and it's not that hard to get one, so i'll have to try harder next time!!
Serious lack of girls at the event, something the french federation will have to work on to establish gender equality.
