Run 18:39 [4] 3.65 km (5:06 / km) +21m 4:58 / km

ESOC Sprint O at Heriot Watt. Prologue.

Woke up feeling nauseous, tried to puke a few times but nothing there. Manned up and went to the event - a bit late and no warm up - missed my call up, picked up descriptions, map and ran. So, a bit slow to start and not feeling good. Wanting to throw up most of the way but concentrated on the running. Surprised to be only 8 secs down on Mark Wood and in with a chance if I could get my act together in the chase.

A decent rest between races and I managed to get a warm up in too. Fired up to try wrestle back the lead. Started OK but then lost the plot a bit going round the gaffles - rushing just a bit too much and so ploughed through lots of tough vegetation rather than cleaner spots. Not able to catch Mark for ages but then caught him on a long leg when he'd gone round a fence to avoid it which he thought was thick black - I went straight across it. Head to head for a bit and then I slowly pulled away through cleaner entry and exiting. He caught me back when had a re-think at a tricky control (where Rog et al got disqualified for crossing through olive) but thankfully he'd hit lactic doing so and there were 2 forest controls at the end - pulled out a reasonable gap here ('cos I was scared of a sprint finish!). A win!
Need to get sharper, speedier, stronger, healthier before any major races! But for early Feb am pleased with my weight and form.

After a day looking after both kids this was a welcome escape. But I did not feel spritely in the least and so just plodded and tried to enjoy. Bumped into Brad doing the reoute in reverse (?). Both of us let off steam about family - you gotta love'em!

1 beer lined up for this evening.

Kinnoull Hill.
Today I had company. Catherine from the old Stirling office - good friends of Brian Bullen's. She's in great shape and didn't struggle on the hill whilst keeping up a good conversation.

She'd be handy in a mixed running race!
