Up around hillside with Casey. Hot afternoon. Just exploring and loosening up.

Sunday Apr 26, 2009 #

O - competition race (Pine Hill A meet) 1:48:00 [4] 10.7 km (10:06 / km)

Red nominal 7.6 km. Preran course. Really enjoyed the map, course and terrain, although lots of med green. Mod visability and a few thick areas. Dense trail network. Took lots of concentration.

Started 2 min behind Alex . Caught up at control 6 and then we exchanged lead for the next 20 controls as we each made horrendous errors in turn. Ran clean thru #13, then drifted R after following the wrong minor trail. Picked up the map wasn't matching the terrain, but failed to act on it nor even look at my compass.

Also missed a trail jct on #16 because of drifting R and had to bushwack back to the road crossing. Closer compass scrutiny would have helped there, too. Alex and I both got to #19 before the control was hung and circled for a several minutes before deciding in turn we were in the right spot. Finally, overshot #21 and lost a couple minutes. Mind was wandering and failed to pace count.

So 20 good legs and 3 botched for a loss of 10 min, and one missing control for another 4 min. Felt confident on the fine navigation for most controls, map detail was excellent.

Saturday Apr 25, 2009 #

O - competition long (Pine Hill A meet) 1:16:04 [5] 8.0 km (9:31 / km)

Red course nominal 6.6 km. Northern section of map.

Lots of people running in all directions. Several small errors, particularly towards end when the heat was taking its toll.

Collecting bags after course closed.

Morning run with Casey. Legs felt good.

Afternoon. Gusty. Felt okay, but not fast.

10 pullups.

With Casey out Cummings. Then recovery between hill runs.

Down into town and around village. Easy run in drizzle.
