Note
(rest day)

Followed up yesterday's 9 hour drive back from West Point with 6 hours of driving today. (But only three hours in my old Sunfire and 3 hours in my new [to me] Escape.) Too much other stuff going on today to have time to comment on the week-end. Hope to get to it tomorrow.

orienteering race 1:50:12 [3]

Better race today, but took me a long time to remember that I should be racing. On the climb to control 3, I became convinced that I was in the wrong place, and kept stopping to try and place myself on the map. Obviously, it would be easier to relocate when I got to the top, instead of half way up the hill. Even worse (in a way), when I got to the top, I was right at the control. As I reached control 4, a clump of 5 or 6 large trees came crashing down about 50m behind me. On the way to 5, I was daydreaming instead of running. On the way to 7, got my foot caught between some rocks, cut up the inside of my ankle and managed to twist it enough to end up very swollen and purple. Like many others, decided to trust the placing of the water on the way to 10 instead of just looking at the map. Once I looked, it was pretty obious where I had gone wrong.

orienteering 1:14:14 [3] 4.57 km (16:14 / km) +167m 13:44 / km

Bought new shoes (1/2 size bigger) just before I left for the start. They treated my feet much more kindly than the old ones. Anybody want an almost new pair of size 9 ice bugs?
