Tramping 10:00:00 [3]

Tramp from Lyell hut down to the Rakaia with two boat river crossings. Initial attempt to raft from near Lauper Biv. River too high and wave trains too big for the doubles. Walked for 5km more. Second attempt at rafting great. Super fast and fun. Continuous wave train for maybe 15km then still fast and good. Take out just after Glen rock.

Over Rangitata Col and down to McCory Saddle. Down to Lyell lake, pack raft and camp.

1hr crossing the Eric with boats and ropes in the morning then up and over Dissapointment saddle and down into the Frances. Endless moraine bashing and grovelling.

"Rest day". Pootle down river to hut = hours of bush bashing and pack lowering around bluffs in the pissing rain. Cross St Winfred using boats and ropes. St Winfred hut for the night with a family of hunters. Really nice group.
