Orienteering 29:00 [4]

Back into it with a sprint middle around the show grounds. Thrilling.

Note

Moving house = harder work than the rogaine

Tramping 2:00:00 [1]

Valley of the winds with the whole crew. This counts as training because it nearly killed me

Rogaine 12:00:00 [3]

WRC with Lara. 75km straight line.

First the positives:
- We won
- We worked well together. I think you would be challenged to find a team that is more evenly matched in speed out there. It felt like we were seldom more than 3m apart for the whole race
- Lara seems to be more happy in the day and able to take the lead on the navigation, I seem to get going from after 11pm-6am while she gets sleepy.

Unfortunately I am left with an annoyed feeling about this race. Maybe I am too much of a perfectionist and it is silly to be unsatisfied with winning a world champs but we were very inefficient for points/km. Our plan turned out to be not good, or we didn't deal well with the fact it was too long. We cut out some controls we probably shouldn't have. I should have planned a route with more contingency if it was too long (as I was being quite ambitious with the planning) instead of cutting ourselves off at the furthers point from the hash house. Stupid and annoying as I consider planning to be one of my strong points. Perhaps I just got a bit over confident and complacent. It is good to have a bad race to learn a lesson and still take the win I guess. I think we could have got maybe 200 more points with minimal extra effort but maximum cunning.

Happy to have achieved the goal of winning the open womens. But frustrated by our overall performance. Seems like I will just have to try and go to Latvia to improve.

It has been a very satisfying year this year :)

Note

Went for a nice walk on the hills to keep me sane

Orienteering 44:00 [4]

Four loops at the quarry. Good to try and run fast on all of them and was feeling it by the last loop. Pretty easy navigation but still good to have to read a map while running.

For once we werent the geekiest people at the park. Pokemon goers were out in force

Run 1:20:00 [3]

A bit of a chaotic Wednesday night run

Monday Jul 11, 2016 #

Run 45:00 [3]

A wee jog at a fair pace around the river with Dave and Tane.

Sunday Jul 10, 2016 #

Orienteering 2:00:00 [3]

Checking the last of the controls in the hard core frost. Beautiful morning to be out running :) Feeling quite tired. Need to focus on getting some good sleep this week.

Saturday Jul 9, 2016 #

Orienteering 3:00:00 [2]

Putting out controls at Butlers Bush. My mapping from aerial photo turns out to be unsatisfactory. Bring your gaiters.

Tried out Shoe and Gaiter option B. Need to add some elastic or something to tramping gaiters to hold them up better, clip comes undone when running.

Run 1:35:00 [3]

Good Wednesday night run on the old classic loop up Cpt Thomas and round into Taylors. Seemed to take a long time to do the loop tonight but not much stopping.

Run 30:00 [3]

A nice run around the river with some faster bits between bridges. Quite late going because of stupid people.

I think I have to move out of my house soon :( Homeless

Monday Jul 4, 2016 #

Run 1:00:00 [3]

The Monday night run abridged version, up the usual way then around and down into Bowenvale.

Sunday Jul 3, 2016 #

Run 40:00 [3]

Easy run around the Bowenvale because I needed to get away from Butlers Bush sorting/OCAD/Condes. Planning on this map makes me want to cry.

Foot feels fine and legs didnt feel too bad.

Run 5:30:00 [3]

Cass-Lagoon with Sarah and Tane. A nice chilly day in the mountains with lots of ice about. Last long run before WRC. Time for a bit of faster stuff now after a bit of recovery.

Was feeling pretty tired from last weekend with nothing in the legs for hills and unfortunately right foot got quite sore. I think everything was just tired though as it feels fine now. But we just took it nice a cruisy and slow so it was quite a pleasant day out.

Tried out the shoe goo on my old merrells (very old, maybe the reason for sore foot?) which seemed to stick very well to the mesh parts but came off the plastic parts. I am almost convinced that this will be the best combination for spinifex proofing, rock protection and being able to run well, although it does mean I will have to ruin a brand new pair of shoes. Stupid plant and terrain consuming my life trying to solve this problem.
