Tramping 8:00:00 [1]

A trip into the little visited Kirk Stream. More exciting adventures including Chris stuck up a cliff learning the lesson that taking his pack off was a bad idea, a slip sliding snow grass decent, a crossing of Cross Bow Saddle and a extremely high speed trip down the Sinclair.

Amazon Peak remained to be climbed another day as time ran short (not unexpectedly).

Monday Dec 22, 2014 #

Tramping 6:00:00 [1]

Over McCoy Col and down to camp by Lyell Lake. More raging torrents and bush basing.

Tramping 5:00:00 [1]

Into McCoy Hut, well actually only to campsite just across the raging torrent of McCoy Stream.

Much matagori bashing and traversing to avoid crossing the Clyde River. One small swim crossing the Lawrence.

Rogaine 13:00:00 [3] 115.0 km (6:47 / km) +6000m 5:23 / km

NZ Rogaine Champs with Greig.

A bit of a disappointing course with not enough controls and reasonably straightforward navigation. We planned a good route (although I think we got 85 the wrong way on reflection) and started out very fast.

I think my legs got a bit smashed with all the fast running so after about 4.5hours I was a bit worried that things were not going to go very well. Felt a bit better after some food for the next 5.5hours but then pretty much hit the wall.

Eating went very very badly for me in this race. Pretty much only ate gels for the entire thing. I kept not being able to eat then hitting the wall, eating a gel then coming right and then repeating the cycle. A horrible way to do things and if I had been able to eat better things would have been much happier. I wasn't even feeling sick it was more that I was being lazy and not eating.

Full credit to Greig for dragging my sorry arse up the hills for the last 10hours.

On the positive side, I'm fairly sure that other than at Worlds, I've won mixed open at every rogaine I've done this year. Can't complain too much about that but am still a bit disappointed with Worlds results. I will have to try and set some less results based goals for next year.

Nav was much better than in Australia but it was much easier. Looking forward to doing a tough technical 24hour rogaine again but the only one on the horizon is Finland which (a) seems a long way off (b) would be expensive and (c) I need a team for
