Orienteering race 33:14 [4] 4.1 km (8:06 / km) +92m 7:17 / km

WRE at Brandywine -- finally a race that I'm eligible for :)
I have been looking forward to this race for a while. Fun course by Carol that avoided the thick parts and used the more runnable and technical areas.

Legs felt recovered today, and I tried to push as best as possible. Tried to use the ridges quite a bit, and avoid the valleys. Also found the lakes and marshes to be the most useful navigation features.

Pretty clean race, except when going to 5. Headed down the western ridge out of 4 and almost had to go around the huge lake south of 4. Realized just in time and crossed the lake in the passable gap. Surprised that I only lost about 30 seconds doing this. Also overran 12 and ended up on the cliff 30m to the west of the control.

Won in front of Mike Smith, followed by Jan Tore Ludvigsen from Nydalen.

Western Canadian O-champs, Long distance at Lost Lake, Whistler.
Tough, physical terrain, with lots of trails, cliffs, and thick forest. Felt tired already on the warm up, somehow haven't been able to recover properly all this week -- sore legs since Sunday. Started the race out well and caught up with Mike Smith who had some mistakes in the beginning. Stayed with him a few controls.

After the map exchange about half way through the course I started getting serious problems keeping the pace up. Mike dropped me pretty easily, and the rest of the race was a constant struggle to finish the course. Solid run by Pat with a winning time of just under 88mins. Good course by Dan, lots of route choice legs, and some tricky navigation too.

NAOCs took more out of me than I though. Probably need to take more recovery time between races in the future.

4x8min (1 minute rest) training with the running team in Pacific Spirit Park. Coach Mike was there to take the times. Quite tough training, and very tired after the run. Let the resting for Barebones begin!

Trail intervals at 2.28km. Start at 4th and Salish. Down 4th, right on Cleveland, Spnish, Salish back to 4th.

Noticed at NAOC that I ran the first two days with the SI stick on the wrong hand (same as the hand with the map)! It didn't feel right at the time, but couldn't figure out why.

Decided I should do some flow training before this weekend to figure out if I had forgotten anything else :) Got Louise to make me a course at Acadia, complete with control descriptions in my control description holder. Worked on reading the description and making sure I knew which direction to go out of the controls. Failed to read ahead on 5/19 controls. Read all the descriptions though.

Running 32:04 [2] 6.4 km (5:01 / km) +38m 4:52 / km

Joined the first workout on the new running team I'm joining, with coach Mike Moon. Just did the warmup and skipped the intervals since I was planning to do the 3000m later in the evening.

Running race 9:42 [5] 3.0 km (3:14 / km)
shoes: Asics Hyperspeed 3

Harrier's all comers track meet at Swanguard Stadium. Did the 3k race. A few good guys, me and Jack. Goal was 9:30. No chance to make that today. Probably need to start intervals again. Jordan with a nice PB in 8:52. Jack in at 9:55.

Legs were stiff all day, even with yesterday's rest day. Maybe there is something to Mathias's "two-days-after-a-race-sucks" theory afterall.
